Tell me how the queen and her family is evil? The king has done much worse and then blames it on the queen.
Yes, at the end of the day, he killed a lot of people, had no mercy even for his wifeās family and was very strict with his own kids. Thatās why to this day Koreans have mixed opinions about him. However, he was still necessary because if he didnāt take the power and if he didnāt do what he did, (being extremely strict and selective in choosing his successor and with his sonsā studiesā¦) his son Yi Do (Sejong The Great) wouldnāt have become one of the greatest Kings in Korean history. So yeah, Taejong was a complexe figure, I donāt agree with his methods for sure.
What was all the royal seal drama I am not able to understand that part in ep 7 Can someone please explain that…
Basically, the king said heās abdicating the throne in favour of the crown Prince. Thus, he sent the Royal seal to the Crown Princeās quarters. However, the queen used the ceremony as an excuse to make the king take it back.

From what you wrote it seemed to me like you were saying how bad he was as a king by referring to his actions and the Queenās actions in the Drama. My bad if I misunderstood. But I have to say though, he did not only target the Queen and her family. He executed and exiled a wide number of powerful families and influential figures. Heās known for his purges. - his own brothers - the queenās family - those who had private armies and resisted the abolishment of theirs - those who posed him a threat - court officials who opposed him - other influential and powerful families - key figures in the establishment of Joseon who were siding with his brothers or were against him or held too much power

Youāre confusing the historical facts (him trying to gain power by suppressing his in-laws) with fiction (the Queen saving him, their sexual positions and fights over concubinesā¦).
The Drama is trying to depict historical facts + adding all the fiction to fill in the empty gaps. So they wonāt make him a nice King who decides to let the Queen and her family share the power with him. His whole reign (historically) was purely about solidifying the dynasty and the power of the king (him and the future ones) while taking away that power from other powerful and power hungry families. All he did was done in order for him to have enough power to give a better life to the people. Killing his wifeās brothers because that would help advance his plans to achieve that? Ok. He did what he did for the same purpose his father took the throne in a coup. For the people.

I think the show is doing an excellent job at showing this transition starting with the kingās attempts to submit the queen and the queen resisting it as she lived a free life as a daughter of a powerful family before.

To be honest, I find this aspect of the TV show very interesting as it shows that women of Goryeo were much more free and somewhat equal to men, they were more respected and could participate in anything war in , politics. But it seeems like Joseon changed womenās roles to that of mere baby makers, making them sit at home adorning themselves and having their status downgraded to be inferior to men. To have less freedom, less rights..

Yes ofc. As I said, he wanted to submit the queen because he didnāt want her to think sheās his equal as he felt threatened by her and her family so he obviously didnāt change the laws. š¤·š»āāļø
In episode 5, it's evident that the king's new concubine is clearly taking the dominant role in the bedroom, and…
From what they said in the show: a Queen must follow the etiquette during a royal conception night (itās not intercourse for pleasure, needs to be done only for the purpose of getting pregnant). However the concubines are not having « ritual intercourseĀ Ā», theirs seem to be more about keeping the king s*xually satisfied. Thatās how I understood it at least. Moreover, the king is trying to submit the Queen, he wants her to finally accepts sheās not his equal, and to « obeyĀ Ā» him. But when she refuses to obey him in other matters but even in bed, he gets mad.

And so on..
