I did.I knew the ending since the beginning of first episode.History sucks, man.
But based on real characters. I found out that if the series focuses on real characters, the ending will stay true to history, but stories with fictional main characters or characters with little known historical background have a happy ending ex. Princess Man or The moon that embraces the sun
I think she said it already, but maybe it was lost in the translation? By becoming a concubine, she would lose…
Everyone defines happiness in their own way. For you being maid wouldn't mean freedom, but for her it is and this drama is about her, so you kinda have to be more open to her thinking.
Yi San is already married in this drama. If he wasn't he would not be looking for a concubine, but a queen - the show simply omitted his wife.
Indeed, he is a son of a concubine, but it does not change the fact that life of concubine heirs is rough and Deok Im knew this.
Although I understand it is based on historical events, I don't think they portray a convincing enough reason…
I think she said it already, but maybe it was lost in the translation? By becoming a concubine, she would lose her freedom. No outings, strict protocol and always people watching. The class difference is way too huge and uncomfortable for her. Her friends wouldn't treat her the same on the outside, but with certain manners and this is why she declined. Than later, she declined because the queen had not conceived yet, and she was afraid to birth an heir, because heirs from concubines were frowned upon (this was not mentioned in the drama, only book and her diary).
I love historical dramas and this one just owns my heart, but there is one thing that bothers me about how history worked - the freaking polygamy. And even if I was a fan of it, men could have multiple lovers, but women nah? This is why I have such beautiful love and hate relationship with this drama and all dramas where they talk about monarchy. 'Cause where there is a king, there is a concubine as well (I know that rich lords also had concubines, but u get my point).

Trying to guilt trap Deok Im for his own decision.
