While everyone is laughing about the FL/ML banter, I think the love story between Shen Jing Hong and the Princess is very touching and I hope they will get a happy ending.
The way they both reacted when the emperor suggested the marriage was one fine piece of acting.
And his look when he saw her caress her dead husband's picture was so moving - while his eyes said "so that's the competition".

But the actress is very good in this kind of role, she is like an evil Eartha Kitt 😈 Very charismatic!

How does this drama still not have a comedy tag???
Some of the scenes are absolutely hilarious!!! Here the humour is generated so naturally from the dialogue and their subtle acting, without any of those dreadful slapstick "ideas" we get to see in some other dramas.

I've read a few comments on Douban - they were mostly positive. Apparently the original author is pleased with the drama version, so that is already a positive sign.

Yeah, her relationship with the little maid is definitely out of the ordinary. They now live in a huge mansion with many many rooms but they still sleep in the same narrow bed. If they were two guys people would be screaming for the BL tag 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I suppose the age gap in the drama is supposed to be much wider than that between the actors. Anything under 10 years is not really what I would call a gap.

Yes, I know what you mean and I agree. It's because the script-writers focus on the plot rather than on characters (contrary to novel writers who often are much more interested in the character development of their protagonists). They have a certain idea in mind of the where plot is supposed to go and then tailor the behaviour of the characters to arrive at the desired result. In many cases this sadly means dumbing down the character because that's the easiest option. Most script-writers seem to be rather "intellectually lazy" in my opinion.

There were many many things that went wrong in this one... For one the inconsistency in their relationship, it permanently jumped from "love you" to "it's impossible" to "hate you" without any clear direction. Kind of reminded me of the FL in TTEOTM. I hate it when people cannot make up their mind!

Exactly! Plus their banter is a lot more amusing to watch than these dreadful slow-motion shots of gazing into each others eyes under a floral rain which in some dramas are repeated approximately twice per episode. It's so boring!

Saying an actor performs well or poorly in a role is a legitimate criticism of their performance. It is one that all actors (and their fans) have to live with. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with insulting or hating them.

It's also a lot more realistic than the C-drama classic of the FL tripping over her own feet and falling into some hero's arms with both of them falling in love immediately.

I see that Tencent are still promoting the drama on their Weibo, so things cannot be that bad...

I'm no particular fan of anyone in the drama, I just watched it because it's xianxia. There are many very talented actors and actresses who get cast in support roles for years before they manage to get a lead. It allows them to gather acting experience and improve themselves.
When someone with as little talent as YCY gets cast in leading roles from the get go it just makes me feel like some factors other than acting prowess have influenced that choice.

It's also not for you if you value good acting more than pretty faces, lovely costumes and high-quality CGI.

She's a calamity for any lead actor who is paired with her. Stage presence of a fluff cotton ball... It could be blamed on bad writing if it happened just once, but she was weak in every single drama that I've seen her in. Definitely not leading lady material.
