Asking myself how a woman like Grandma can have a kid like Vasin? ðŸ˜
My response is going to get a lot of heat but here it goes. Vasin is like a rock...a boulder. Strong...very strong...but rigid and unmovable. Yet, despite this, he's an admirable leader of his family. Given the time (1920's-1930's), his reaction to his son loving a man is probably less harsh than other men's at that time. Do I like him? No...not really. But I am able to understand his mindset.
Now for the part that I will get heat for. His hyper-masculine demeanor makes him attractive. He's not toxically masculine. He just hyper-masculine. And the actor who portrays him has done an excellent performance. In addition to that, he has a great build.
Episode 9 felt like a snoozefest at times. And all of that crying...jeez...ENOUGH.
Phob.....what a disappointment he has become. It seems like everything he does just makes things worse. I liked his character until episode 7. Now I think he's just an asshole. And a self serving one at that. Phob was too inexperienced to understand that in a government overthrow the victor merely assumes the new seat of corruption and eats off of the riches of the land. Even his intervention with Chat screwed things up for everyone. If he had just left Chat in jail , Tinn's family wouldn't have lost their palace. Sometimes giving a helping hand actually makes things worse. If I were Tinn, I wouldn't ever want to go back to Phob.
Speaking of manning up, Tinn manned up in this episode. His annoying crying and damsel in distress demeanor in the previous episodes has become overshadowed...actually replaced... with his strength to survive. He and Grandma are the poster children for picking yourself up by your bootstraps and reconquering the world.
Now for Chat. Oh boy, Chat...that piece shit. He wouldn't even own up to being the cause of losing the palace and instead, he placed the blame on Tinn. Chat wins the Biggest Loser of All Award...with Phob as 1st runner up. Too bad Chat didn't go from jail straight to prison where he belongs.
This is a series...not real life...so we already know that Phob somehow recreates his destiny and redeems himself. That will be a tough one, though. After all, he destroyed the family that was so good to him...servant or not, they treated him like family. I'm not sure how the writers are going to pull that one off and make it believable.
I enjoyed this series. But....but....THOSE ANEMIC KISSES !!!! What was THAT all about? The series was great despite the disappointing kisses. It could have had one more episode, though, to develop the romance with Okami. I hope to see these actors in more BL series.
