Different expectations, I can trust xukai to pick good storyline that's why I watch any dramas he's in because he has always has good taste. This is one drama where the main leads has a big focus from the beginning, most of xukai dramas tends to have a big casts and tend to put too much emphasis on support characters than main leads, so it can be annoying. Still most of his dramas always have a good storyline, I don't have to worry about stupid or weak fls. I can always count on xukai to pick dramas with really strong fls I can root for ^^

And agree with you I love ancient love poetry, and baijue is probably my favorite character xukai has played so far, that character was so strong and decisive and I really like his portrayal. He was able to show differences in baijue/qingmu and boxuan at different stages. This character is such a complex character and I just love that he was able to play him. She reminded me of a princess in this one drama I watched a long time ago. She was so much more talented than her two brothers, if she was a male she would make a good emperor. She also used needle the first time she met the ml in that drama. Both of them fought each other from the moment they met just like lini with cuilin. This drama kind of reminded me of that old drama, the ml also very similar to ml in this drama who's very laid back and not care for politic, he also really values friendships. Fl tried to manipulated him by using his love for her to get him to work for her father, but he refused since he was a general from a past dynasty. Where were you criticized, I didn't see anyone criticize you. I never understand why people wanted a historical drama to end so early though, for a historical drama being 40 eps is not a lot. It's very different compare to modern dramas, in my opinion modern dramas should be shorter so it's not dragged, while for historical dramas I love longer eps dramas to adapt the novel properly rather than have them edit out all the scenes i was hoping for. This drama was shot for 50 eps, it was supposed to have 46 eps in two seasons, but due to censorship it was cut down to 40 eps, I'm wondering what was cut down, and if it's relevant to the plot.

I used to watch a drama that portraying li shimin as a person who cares for his brothers and father, who only reason to fight for the throne was so the country could be at peace. He was just so much smarter than his father and two brothers. His two brothers were always jealous of him, but he's always forgiving and doesn't take it to heart. He also has a childhood sweetheart, who he has feeling for, and waited for her to return his feeling. Later on, he only took the throne after both his brothers tried to kill him, it was a real positive portrayal of emperor li shimin. He has a friendship with another man who was the main character, and both men were really smart, and his family and this man's armies were both fighting for the throne, but later on this man chose to walk away from the throne and left it to his family, before he left he told him it doesn't matter who has the throne, as long as that person has the country in his heart and care for the people then he will never lose power. That was such an old drama, when someone compare li shimin to lini it reminded me of that drama, and it makes me think the portrayal are kind of similar, the only difference is lini is more playful and smile more. Although when I first watched this drama, reminded me of the main couple of that old drama, they were fighting from when they first met, he didn't want to have anything to do with politic, she was a princess and wanted to recruit him to work for her father, but he refused. He is really playful and easy going very similar to lini in this drama, li shimin has such respect for him. I wonder if li ni was base on this character instead. He was very wise, and towards the end he chose to leave and establish his own kingdom with his wife rather than fight against li shimin and his family for the throne.

I'm watching on YouTube and it's only update to ep 12. I'm tempted to find other sites to watch more eps though because 1 EP a day is not enough. This drama keeps getting better and better as you keep watching. I didn't want to watch preview in case of spoilers, but I find it hard not to spoil myself as everyone else has watched much farther.
That father of lini is so ungrateful, he rescued him from the hands of that general and he has no words of thanks. He seems to appreciate useless gestures from his two oldest sons instead, is he stupid or what to complain about his son's method if he didn't take the risk he wouldn't have been rescued. That rescue scene of lini is so cool, riding on his horse and using his bow and arrows , if lini hasn't come in time cuilin and her mister would've died, now they owe lini a debt of gratitude for saving their lives. That sfl is planning something by wanting to take care of Lini's father, is she wanting to get in between lini and cuilin. It's obvious to everyone both of them have a thing for each other. I hope the sfl and sml won't ruin things for the main leads relationship.

Probably some of those who rated down this drama are those who afraid this drama will blow up and their favorites dramas will be lower rated. There were some people who has nothing better to do than complain about the rating of this drama back when it just started. Just ignore the rating, it will go up by itself as more people watch and realize this is a solid production like what happened in ancient love poetry, the rating goes up after drama ended, and stay constant because of the quality of the drama.

Voice over is in many cdramas so it's not something that would makes me stop watching. Sometimes I even watched foreign shows with English dub over and has no problem enjoying them. I'm surprised there're some people who would stop watching something due to it being dub. Also is fl that bad, not sure about her other shows since I didn't watch, but I thought she played her character well for the most part. She could be more expressive, but I thought this character is made for her.

Whatever it's all makes believe anyway. Who cares whether they're fake. Aren't you watching dramas to escape from reality, what makes you think those who watch these dramas don't understand they're fictional. Being perfect means being romantic, a woman dreams to meet her perfect man, obviously he's not real since real guy wouldn't behave like they do, being understanding, putting her feeling over his, being a family guy, this is why it's called romance and it's a genre on its own. Kind of weird you're demanding an imaginary character on paper to be a real life person. For you to question this genre, it just means you're not its intended target. If you don't like something you can stop watching anytime, all you're doing is complain about something that's irrelevant, when you know very well it won't change anything. If you want to complains, do it to the writers, why do you complain about the fl and ml, they're just written characters who behave as how they were written.

To complains about the fl, who was made to feel worthless and useless by the people close to ml, who has no power to defend herself against those who meant her harm, ml put her in a position where she was reduced to become a blinded person with no one close to her, and she loss her senses, and you dare to judge her.
