I dropped High School Savvy because of the ML actor

I avoid shows with this kind of ending, but I’ve rewatched this multiple times and I’ve teared up each time, but I keep coming back for the high quality.
It’s one of those shows that achieves near perfection, from script, casting, directing, performances, music, production value, sets, wardrobe, pacing, editing, etc… it’s a perfect storm.

It’s also the most believable enemies to lovers story I’ve ever watched.

This show can be released today as is and still be highly rated. It’s as perfect as a show can get.

Just watch it, yes you’ll get teary eyed but it’s a near perfect production,

As dailies go the overall story idea is okay, but the casting seriously hampered it from the get go.

The male leads were especially weak, the ML was not the least bit masculine, the SML was forgettable.

The FL character design was not consistent, the writer couldn’t seem to decide whether she was strong and determined or weak and unsure.

Because of poor scriptwriting, In the 3rd act the FL was pretty much sidelined, also leads lacked chemistry and the romance was thoroughly lacking.
I got the impression that the lead actress is married and the lead actor doesn’t like kissing scenes so the romance was cut from the script.

I like heirs, lie to me has a good story idea, but the execution was schizophrenic, because the concept of a rich man/poor woman is timeless but the modern twist feel flat.

I wish Choi Yoon So & Oh Ji Eun would pick better characters and or projects, or maybe there plan is to be mediocre and not get to famous and avoid the limelight.

This is Makjang alright. I’m sure the writer had good intentions, but laziness got the better of the writer..
Watch this only with complete suspension of basic common sense.
By the way no one gets revenge, you are expected to just sing kumbaya together with the baddies.

I didn’t like “Hotel King” either, so no surprise here.

I only go on rants when s show could have been a contender and a great drama.

The 3 relationships weren’t appealing or compelling .Aliens amongst us is more realistic than the youngest son’s relationship, if Oh Ji Eun wasn’t so pretty the 3rd FL would be much more unlikeable.

The dad is the worst police officer ever someone shows you picture and you can’t connect the dots? His wife is toxic for no valid reason, probably from an inferiority complex, insecurity or low self esteem.

Don’t get me started on the eldest son, the prodigal son plot is never fun to watch on screen. The loser older son mama’s boy is irritating to watch on a show. His wife was not appealing enough to justify her bad behavior.

The middle son is so one dimensional, if he was charming you could understand his mistreatment of his wife, the wife is a doormat and unappealing.

The 3rd son had potential to be a positive character but his relationship with the 3rd FL ruined that.

The writer planned to rehabilitate the characters by the show’s end, but she made them too unlikeable.
Unusual episode count makes me suspect the show was cut short.

Having so many unappealing characters on on show might get you some short term high viewership, but it creates a very low quality show. A healthy mix of positive and negative characters.

This drama is definitely not for viewers looking for a more traditional romance.
The show is schizophrenic, sometimes it’s slapstick comedy other times it tries to be serious, it’s sometimes soap opera other times slice of life.

Also I think the writer was trying to show that all the characters that disapproved, were the same ones that inadvertently pushed them together.

Actually it’s more extreme in “New Tales of Gisaeng”.
Marriage approval plot eliminates about 30 out off 178 episodes.

Kim Jae Won doesn’t have the acting skills to balance being mean and being likable. The problem I have with he’s dramas is he starts off so unlikable that it’s hard to see him as a likable character later.

The synopsis sounds like “The Devil Wears Prada”

You are spot on about ML.
FL only let adults walk all over her, I guess that’s a Korean cultural thing.
She didn’t have a relationship with her birth mother.
The in-law thing I can’t understand either, it’s in most Kdramas with marriage plot point. If the objection to marriage thing actually exists in Korean culture it might partially explain the low birth rates.

I don’t get why some folks complain about cliche, when it’s done right. The beauty of KDramas is the variety. Sometimes a well done cliche drama is what one needs to escape a rough reality.

You are correct on both counts,

Anytime you see Geum Bo Ra and Choi Soo Rin in a drama, you know the characters they are playing a extremely toxic.
