in all these types of dramas to me a concubine is just a fancy way of saying the female is the side hoe or mistress…
Only the highest men in the empire were given permission to take another wife as a concubine, so 99 percent of marriages were just one man and one woman. We just focus a lot on the 1% of the past in dramas.
It was actually thought to be a special favor for the wives, as well: the job of selecting concubines usually fell to her, not the husband, and they were supposed to serve her and be her companions (very important considering they were almost never able to leave their courtyards). So she could select girls she liked as friends and enjoyed spending time with. In addition, her health would not be damaged by the endless number of pregnancies a lack of contraception would otherwise have resulted in. So the new concubines would endure the pregnancies, but all the children would still call the main wife mother, as well, and obey her.
Since the marriages in the upper echelons of society were political alliances and not love matches, this was considered a nice arrangement for both husband and wife. And the concubines were able to enjoy a much higher standard of living than they would have had in individual marriages, with better health care and better education opportunities available to their children.
It‘s great so far, not slow at all! At least if you enjoy plots, counter-schemes, and mysteries. The FL is cute and very smart, the ML is hiding his true ninja nature but is very sweet to FL. Plus his dreamy voice! The sets are gorgeous and very immersive.
Another beautiful and smart female lead that's great, I love it when a female lead can turn the table against…
Yes, it‘s not an annoying baby voice at all, it‘s just a naturally high-pitched voice and I‘m all for accepting people‘s natural voices! 🥰 Plus, I actually like it and find it cute. ☺️
No. She sincerely wants to rescue baby Mo, however she also wasn’t sure. But ML believes as he needs hope to…
Not really: today they clarified that it’s a fake prescription she came up with herself. She just made a list of all the wonder cures that are known and might possibly help. After looking at e.g. the fungus, she already could tell that it would not help the baby at all and would only make him worse, she it won’t be used for Mo. The next wonder cure he retrieves might be better or not. But the ML is still risking his life to get each one! And I don’t think he would not be able to go on if the baby died. He‘d mourn Mo and be sad, but move on with his life and find happiness again.
I don’t know, but it seems to me that the FL is wasting her life by not accepting reality and refusing to move on and find happiness. And she‘s lying to the ML, manipulating him into wasting his life (and risking it!) doing the exact same thing.
Everyone would be much better off accepting the way life is and making the best of it despite of the sadness it can bring. Only by mourning and moving on can they all find new happiness.
They‘re all still young, so why have this iron death grip on the past, stubbornly insisting to go down with it even though it doesn’t benefit anyone? Even the baby is just condemned to more and longer excruciating suffering, and the ML may well die doing the impossible tasks she set for him with her fake prescription.
I really like the ML‘s character and don’t want him to be manipulated and wasted like this. He is the chief of a sect and has other things to do with his life! Just my two cents. I still like the drama, I just don’t approve of what the FL is doing.
I‘m loving this so far! Both ML and FL are extremely smart and likable! Besides, I‘ve always loved the Scarlet Pimpernel trope of an ML who pretends to be weak and useless, while being a badass ninja in secret! 🥰
synopsis sounds a sad ending, what shall I do?? I want to watch, but hate to cryyyyyyyyyyy, maybe, hopefully,…
So far, the dialogue featured references to never giving up as long as there is still a ray of hope, and that sometimes, one can make the impossible come true and change even fate like a miracle. So perhaps…
And even if it does end with their deaths - human life is always impermanent anyway, but maybe they‘ll have some sweet moments and love each other while it lasts.
hmm the dubcon element doesn't sit right with my spirit but i guess since ruo wen is hot yall brush this off😅
It‘s all so weird, as if getting kidnapped, threatened and raped were light-hearted, funny things that you can/should just shrug off. The 2ML is such a vile, despicable character, so the switch to then suddenly presenting his as a romantic option and a guy you can have funny banter with is so odd. It doesn’t work for me AT ALL, the chest muscles do not make up for the personality!
Episode 1I am confused by the attack from the Lord of Tianqu on the Masui group (Huang Bei Shuang and her mother).…
We weren‘t shown any details: what were the lord‘s actual orders? Who was the lord who gave those orders? It also made no sense to kill them since they could have simply refused to let them in. And afterwards, we see the ML all alone in the desert, dying of thirst, looking for that very scroll - if he was really in power in the city at that point, he could have just ordered to let them in or for a hundred men to immediately chase after them. So my guess is that something else happened we don’t know about yet.
she is not chinese by aby stretch of imagination !
Does her nationality not count? Born in China, grew up and went to university in China, belongs to a Chinese ethnic group… I‘d say it counts! Or do you deny citizenship to anyone who‘s not a Han?
...am i the only one liking Jeremy the most..? i already know this drama.will make it difficult for me to switch…
I wouldn’t worry! The drama very skillfully reveals the characters true faces and their hidden depth, as well as their growth, changing your opinions of them so that you‘ll understand the FL completely!
Up to ep 11 and this is my reviewI love the plot so far. Easy to follow and the characters have characters(?).…
Melody of golden age has good subs on viki! At least watch ep. 25 for the super sweet love confession and kiss in a hot spring, it’s so beautiful. 😻 The plot and villains are batshit crazy, though! 🤪
Ren Jialun has a ‘no kissing’ clause in his contract (he’s married), so there won’t be any kisses. Them leaning their heads towards each other that was shown in the trailer is probably as far it will go.
