The writing is bad! The drama only focused on creating drama and more drama, without any regards of the characters personality and development. Although I really like the main actors, I can't continue watching because of the poor writing. This drama has the worst FL. As a mother she's never there for her daughter, and she's even worst as a wife. As an absent mother, she desperately holding on to her daughter, without caring about how her actions hurt her daughter. As an absent wife, she demand her husband to be as loyal as a dog and accommodate her every needs. She also cheat on her husband emotionally ( cheating is cheating, wether emotionally or physically ). And despite all of that, the drama portray FL as a victim, the purest, most pitiful angel. FL is supposed to be a very well accomplished person, smart, successful, resourceful, and yet she doesn't show any bit of rational or logical thinking in any of her actions.Was this review helpful to you?
Too many unnecessary scene
I would have given it a higher rating if they cut out all the "romance" scene altogether. It's just too much and so unnecessary. They just had to, don't they?! What a waste of screentime. Man and Woman can work together without romance, you know l, why can't writers get that!! Instead of putting those unconvincing romance, they should've focused more on the angst and internal conflicts of the characters. It's also lacking on the action scenes, it's very slow paced. Too many prolonged dialogue and blank stare. Also, I can't stand the FL, she's too stubborn and not too bright, not very convincing as a 'famous todugun". boring
I'm really tired of these FLs with inadequate brain cells. For a person who lived for 3000 years, she's as stupid as a rock. Having to lived for so long, how can she's not able to have a bit of wisdom? just a tiny bit would suffice. Why does Chinese writer love these dumb FL? To made it worse, they cast YCY, she's never been good in acting, just pouting most of the time, and open her eyes as big as possible. She does this in this one too. Aiyaa... I feel so bad for Ryan Ding, his performance is good, but an actor can't carry the whole drama by him self. I hope he can get better project in the future, with better script and better partner.Was this review helpful to you?
One of the best in 2023
Drama started very solid, good paced, good script... It's very rare CDrama to have so many characters written properly. I love the development of the characters, especially the growth of little naive princess, so so good, the actress also very good. I also love Alen Fang's character, I think this is his best performance to date. FL is also very good, stay true to it's character although out the series, (unlike every other ones that turned into a confused little damsel once the romance started, I really hate those). But it's still not as good as I hoped. I'm a very disappointed on the progress of the last 8 episodes, the drama kind of lost it's pace. Instead focusing to built a climax to the story, it felt like they're lost. I mean, couples that happily joked and tease each other and being lovey dovey in the midst of impending invasion/war, without a care, not even mourning the death their love ones , really?? Another ridiculous scene is when ML able to forged a new sword in a blink of an eye, what magic did he use 😞Was this review helpful to you?
One of the best drama
Surprisingly very well made good quality drama. A short drama that far exceed many so called S+ drama in recent years. A very rare drama that correctly portray how a strong woman should be, as a very composed, smart, brave and calm without loosing her feminine traits and gentleness. (can't stand those dramaa where the woman is stupidly stubborn and domineering). I'm not familiar with the actress, but her performance blew me away, she's able to convincingly portray a character from her bubbly youth, and her development through the years until her late years as a mature seasoned lady.Was this review helpful to you?
selling artificial sugar
the writing of this drama is so so bad.... Obviously it's only relying on selling romantic slow motion scenes between main couple. Story wise, it's just a mess, unnecessarily drag the storyline just to make the drama longer, characters written so inconsistent. Financial journalist, acting so clueless and made very stupid choices all through the episodes. FL and her friends were all like high schoolers with googly eyes trying too hard to act as an adult. Why can't writers just write a normal independent modern woman that knows what they want and mature enough to make their own choices. The Devil is actually the victim
This is one drama that have all the characters are evil. All of them are abusive, vindictive, manipulative and cold to the ML. Everyone contributed in creating the "Devil". ML was deemed a monster since birth, just because his mother died during childbirth. And growing up in a very harsh environment, surrounded by very cruel people. No one had ever showed him sincere care and love. So how can he understand love if he never experienced it? All ML do was trying to survive using his logic, the logic of a person that knows only suffering, cruelty and pain.Was this review helpful to you?
confused writer
Such a confusing story. I don't know what story the writer want to tell. Instead of focusing on developing the main storyline, the writer chose to throw so many unnecessary filler side story randomly. I wish they'd focused more on the interaction between the mainleads, what a waste of such a good chemistry. What disappointed me the most was episode 28. Suddenly almost 2 years just went by. What happened to the Hua, Mu, Meng, Wu, Zhong Family? The plot was going nowhere. Instead of continuing the plotline, the writer/director chose to throw in so many new characters in the last episodes? What's the purpose? It really felt like cash grabbing/hype seeking on the cameo's name, I mean : Peng Xiao Ran, Sun Yi, Zhang Tian Ai, Yang Xu Wen, all come out just for a few seconds of scene that had nothing to do with the previous plot. This drama glorify a narcissistic middle aged man that can't even do the bare minimum as a husband and a father. This selfish man, a gold digger, live off of his wife's money, but act like he's the wisest kindest greatest man. Like that family owed him something, when actually he was the one that owed everything to them. He never respect his wife nor his son, disregarding their feeling, and demand them to go along with anything he wants. No one was allowed question his action. Every decision he made was absolute. Everyone was obligated to immediately forgive and forget any of his wrong doings. He never acknowledge his mistakes or sincerely ask any forgiveness. He even gaslight his wife, whenever she express any personal thoughts or disappointments.Was this review helpful to you?
Only good at first
Didn't expect anything from idol drama like this, but I was pleasantly surprised. First 10 episodes were entertaining, storyline was interesting. I binge all 10 episodes in a day. But then I don't understand why, suddenly I feel something changed afterwards. Was the writer/director changed? Anyway, I completely lost interest after episode 17. What I like about this drama were the characters. They were all really complex people, appear tough and strong but with many emotional struggle inside, not just some simple black or white labeled. Over the top characters
I understand that it's supposed to be an adaptation from some comics.. But a good adaptation must have some adjustments to be a good drama, it's a drama afterall not a comic book. I've watched other adaptations, not one as bad as this. The main characters were so over the top cringy. It's like watching 10 yos wearing adult body and playing roles. The show was trying too hard to be funny, well it's not. Every scene that were supposed to be funny, just felt cringy and sad. 2 episodes was enough for me to drop this.Was this review helpful to you?
Not impressive
Some clips of this drama pops up in my feed, and I thought, wow.. it looked interesting and funny. Tried to finished it was a struggle. Turned out the funny part was only in those clips, the rest was just full of boring old cliche plot. Main characters were just unlikeable. FL is a 27 yo woman, have worked for years as a reporter, but all her actions was like a clueless-helpless little girl. Most of the problem she faced were caused by her own stupidity and passiveness. Many of her problem can be resolved, better yet non existent, if she chooses to act as an independent and responsible adult, as she should be. SFL was a very toxic, acting as eternal victim, using ML & SML as she pleases, and all of the characters around her just willingly treat her like this fragile white porcelain. And another thing i've had enough of, k-drama favorite cameo, the white truck of doom... why? please be more creative writer-nimWas this review helpful to you?
good start, bad writing
The first 4 episodes is quite interesting, mysteries, action, drama. But it started to go downhill pretty fast. The writer is the one to blame. Characters were written inconsistent and shallow. Reporter /best friend of 13 years, take on an unknown tip and jump straight on a witch hunt without doing any due diligence. Not once ask, what is FL motive, what purpose, who benefits for the murder? If I were to get some unknown tip of my BFF doing shady things, I would have a hard time to belive it. How can a reporter not have such basic analytical thinking? and FL supposed to be so in love with her husband, can just flip off the love button and be so calculating cold, without any internal conflict is beyond me. K-drama quality in recent years is declining and the script/writer is always the culprit. So sad for all the talented actors.Was this review helpful to you?
lost interest at minute 21
I don't usually watch long k-drama. Rarely able to go through more than 3 episodes. The only ones I found quite good were My Golden Life, Five Enough & My father is strange. I want to give this a shot because it's Ahn Jae Hyun first drama after hiatus. Unfortunately I immediately lost interest after the writer made the FL (a top teacher, supposed to be extra smart right?) mistakenly ruin ML car because she didn't bother to see a car license plate. Who in this time of day, thinks that only your boyfriend have that kind of car, I give it a pass if it's a super expensive sport car or some special painted car, but it's a white suv? c'mon....Was this review helpful to you?
throw your common sense as far as possible
first episode okay, just a bunch of entitled spoiled brats at school doing what they do. then it's started going downhill pretty fast. Being a Science Fiction doesn't necessarily mean you can throw every common sense and basic logic down the drain. SF can be good and have a bit of basic common sense. And it's so funny that main characters can always escape deathly situation so easily, it's a joke. If you enjoy bloody scene and willing to throw your basic common sense, I think it's still watchable. If not, then don't waste your time. It's a very badly written SF.Was this review helpful to you?
