i beg to differ :) FL and SFL made a truce and even kinda became friends... At least they earned respect of each other and got on the same page... And in all that:
FL demonstrated amazing MATURITY, ability to communicate, ability to solve problems, to move things forward in a very direct, honest, and kind way that brings people together... FL is a great leader...
ML demonstrated he watches monitors and cooperates without meddling and micromanaging... he too is a great leader...
SFL demonstrated amazing sharpness, she is so smart and so politically savvy and also an honest and decent person...

FL's family came together.... etc etc etc etc
Se got more insight into how Natural Secretary thinks, how their family is, etc How FL's family is... How Grandpa-Grandma are and their household... Grandpa just took that photo without asking!!!!! luckily he returned it and apologized.. but - do you see their dynamic?

it was LOTS of profound changes and moving forward and LOTS of profound insights

**** SO THE PLOT AND CHARACTERS SIGNIFICANTLY DEEPENED. **** And all in very seemingly small actions that do not scream of overdramatic... but are POWERFUL

THIS DRAMA IS POWERFUL and some of its power is that it is REALISTIC AND ACHIEVABLE IN REAL LIFE

and she is responsible for not hearing about it earlier, since she did not want to hear about it, so they were afraid to tell her :) But that is toxic. Glad the family is now on the same page. That was a MASTERFUL script and acting and imo very profound family healing.
This drama impresses me with solving such big issues but without super high octane bloody hyperdone overdramatic drama and ridiculous plot. This drama just lets people live their lives and solve their problems.
IT IS INCREDIBLY INTERESTING, FASCINATING.

Dumb Mi is bettr in ep 100 than she was in ep 1, for sure, but ... is it enough yet?? It is not .... 100 episodes should have produced a bigger transformation.

I think the Dumb Mi actress has difficulty with this super dumb and unnatural role...
DumbMi script started and kept maintaining this very dumb, proud, insecure woman-child, prude and arrogant to BH - bc he is nice to her to she takes him for granted - and meek and submissive to HY and authorities - bc they are imposing to her... Then she shows off by stating all her naive and stupid opinions, e.g. dismissing all signs of HY crime, etc - basically a person so dumb and so uneducated and ignorant, WITHOUT ANY ABILITY OR WILLINGNESS TO LEARN

Dumb Mi is an epitome of a very poor, uneducated, simple , ignorant and dumb person... i think the actress just could not relate.

I have seen too many DumbMis in real life... they are actually common. THE POWERLESS INSECURE NAIVE WOMEN WHO ARE SUPPOSEDLY GOOD PPL... and the other side of it, powerless insecure women who ar mean and destructive - YOUNG GoLDDIGer here - are also super common...
And all those middle school girl fights and pettiness is super common with ppl like that...
So the drama probably thought those kinds of ppl will "buy" this drama...

I saw DumbMi being angry and cussing and HY.... clutching her fists and announcing threats... But ... not really more than that. Dumb Mi in real life CAN go into extreme emotions. But here,... I dont think the actress could relate to show that AND/OR she wasnt asked to act that...

The only plan DumbMi ever made (to marry JH), she made alone, under 100% incorrect assumptions ( that HY will keep her promises, etc - and all her actions totally flopped.
So yeah, Dumb Mi is written as someone .... dumb lmao
Lately she seems somewhat improving as she is praised for her manager work at Dream Group and Chairman is talking to her as someon who will run the company.
But ... I am not convinced yet that Dumb Mi is there yet.

Dumb Mi is a classical old school dumb loser woman-child as kdramas tend to portray, in an attempt to capitalize on and further deepen the audience's SEXISM. Dumb Mi is clearly there to assure that th audience is conditioned to see only STUPID BUT KIND FEMALES WHO GET TAKEN CARE OF BY AN EXAMPLARY AND DEDICATED MAN. This is the classic premise of sexism and the classic trope used - FL is super dumb loser, makes mistakes, and ML keeps saving her.

SO SUCH SCRIPTS ARE BASED ON DUMB DAMSEL IN DISTRESS FL MAKING MISTAKES AND KNIGHT-IN-SHINING-ARMOR ML SAVING HER.
It is super boring and awful, and very limited.
And any dog can write a script like that. Super dumb.

ALSO SUCH SEXIST SCRIPTS LEAD TO LIMITED AND AWFUL BORING ACTING. FL is just anxious clutz and ML is just this "Superman" who is always at her service. Both are total caricatures and so 1-sided.

There are other baits, like ... ML is cold but taking care of FL melts his frozen heart... Ah what a bologney... the delulu story of immature women... "I will continue to be a flawed loser and will not have to move one finger to grow and here is this sugar daddy who will take care of me and adore me forever." Common...


IT IS INFURIATING THAT THE SAME SEXISM CONTINUES EVEN WITH NEW DRAMAS AND YOUNG ACTORS. Like... Sold Out on You, Practical Guide to Love, etc etc Dynamite Kiss was a prime example, the ML doing sexual harassment at work and outside, and THE AUDIENCE THOUGHT IT WAS SEXY. !!!!! The FL was a slimey liar loser and a super weak woman-child who never communicatd and bailed out any time, and the audience thought she was cute. !!!!! Heck both FL and ML were super toxic and immature. Which is ok at the START of a drama, but then the drama better show them growing - and it did not....
DYNAMITE KISS and PRACTICAL GUIDE TO LOVE WERE TOTAL TRASH.

The gray masses of audience are stupid, that is the bottom line. So using them as cash cows and serving them cheap script and taking their money for it is a totally viable profitable business model... It is a chicken and the egg issue, the audience already has stupid tendencies, and the drama uses and abuses that and CONDITIONS the audience in the stupid tendency to sexism.

Basically ppl are led on like sheep and conditioned to be like sheep. So many ppl DO behave like sheep and dont think for themselves - and often it is not their fault bc they have low IQ and/or have been traumatized and wounded forever during growing up, so they lack the ability toeven see they are being manipulated and controlled from the outside....

. The evil powers in control EXPLOIT the lowest tendencies in people and CONDITION ppl to accept sexim, racism, slavery, dominance, etc
AND SO ALL THOSE LOSERS FANTASIZE ABOUT MOVING UP AND/OR DISSING OTHERS

and now you have 50,000 ppl watching Perfect Crown and thinking it is entertaining...

(Sold Out on You has a poker face cold ML who saves loser FL, and the plot is CRINGE and h acting is CRINGE .... The drama at least pushes some meaningful messages - you can heal your addiction to polls in natural ways, move out of the city and live more healthy life witih good food, fresh air, exercise, and a GREAT COMMUNITY, big corporations can be stopped from doing wrong, etc)
But the ML-FL plot is the same old sexist trash, pokerfaced cold grumpy John Wayne/Clint Eastwood Good Bad Ugly suddenly decides to be a psychiatric nurse to a FL who is a loser in her own life, addicted to sleeping pills. it is 100% infuriating to see a young and very capable male actor being forced to act a role from 1950s.

And, MBC has a history of really pushing this sexist plot of dumb loser FL and good guy ML who saves her. the previous drama "The Woman Who Swallowed The Sun" had a suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper dumb FL, I mean really dumb. REALLY dumb. Someone wh did not even have ability to self reflect in any way.....or think logically about anything... and ML was quite dumb too. His only advantage is that he had morals.


KBS tried to fix this so it tried the concept of a capable FL and even a villanous capable FL, e.g the first attempt were

1. Our Golden Days, where FL was a competent professional and spoke up her mind in her romantic life - and the AUDIENCE USED TO SEXISM totally trashed her and called her unbearable brat So Our Golden Days which had script to show male privilege, women fighting it, and other social issues - elderly having to work, families sacrificing for their loser parents JUST bC they ARE PARENts to the point of sacrificing their lives and children - AND THE SEXIST AGEIST AUDIENCE DID NOT CARE -
so the drama recoiled back to the classic "dumb and kind FL" tropes -
but luckily SFL was capable and outspoken and that side story turned gold - AND THEN IT WAS SHUT DOWN to make it the same old sexist trope..

2. and A Graceful Liar, where FL was shown as more active, having an initiative - to go out and cheat and steal.... ,
BUT she was really the same old dumb loser, except that this one was super greedy and mean and entitled and went around causing damage like crazy - led to killing of her father, total mess in other ppl's lives like her first husband, brought the only moral character Ha Neul down into the toxic mud to "help her" and turned him a moron like the others, etc
AND THE AUDIENCE CREATED THAT, tHEY WANTED BLOODY REVENGES AND MORALLY GRAY FL.
This FL was NOT morally gray. She was a dumb loser moron who did crime without thinking. She had zero depth and zero character. "A GRACEFUL LIAR" WAS EVIL TOXIC TRASH

then the recent tendency to cater to the lowest sides of women and let them have as many men as possible doting on them - what was that drama about AI boyfriends... ?

IN ANY CASE, THE OLD SCHOOL SEXIST KDRAMA SHOWS THE MAN AS AN SUGAR DADDY ESCORT NURSE WHO TAKES CARE OF ALL FL's NEEDS, including money, s.x, company, adoration, housework, ..... -
JUST LIKE LITTLE GIRLS FANTASIZE ABOUT MARRYING THEIR FATHER. THAT kind of plot.
So females are conditioned to be woman-child, men low in status feel proud and JUSTIFIED as the heroes saving these incapable stupid woman, and men (and a few women( who are really in power are laughing on their way to the bank and counting the money they swidled from these stupid fools.

Currently dramas are at least allowing FL to be successful in her career. But in person, she is still a moron clutz, IMMATURE.... and making mistakes that ML fixes.

And the audiences still like that, and also still ask for bloody revenges. Clearly the audience is at fault for keeping this circus going on.

In First Man, the lucky thing is that BH actor is a masterful actor so at least we have that, and he made BH into a very noble and capable man instead of just a blind person - so the drama is not a disaster bc BH character is written as quite ... flat one sided. Luckily BH actor made BH into a more evolved person and saved the drama from collapse.... and luckily the script writer allowed BH to stand up to DumbMi and STOP her...

and Dumb Mi was an excuse to create boring trashy script based on the sexist tropes. Basing the script mostly on Dumb Mi TOTALLY destroyed the drama, kept is slow and boring. The actress for DumbMi had trouble acting this unnatural dumb plot... Luckily she had a chance to act complex smart brat Seo Rim so that saved the drama somewhat.

FIRST MAN IS SOME IMPROVEMENT ON MBC's HISTORY, but whoever sits in that office has to realize it is time to move on.
When FL has some brains, it opens a whole wide world for creating the script. The plot can be a lot a lot a lot more interesting bc FL has more options, now the plot is UNLIMITED.
Also, when ML is a live human being with a heart and self awareness and ability to relate, the script can be a lot a lot a lot more interesting bc ML has more options, now the plot is UNLIMITED.
And if you have both ML and FL like that, wow the sky is the limit bc it is COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE how they will react, act, and relate.... It really becomes like ... playing God, creativing super unique characters and circumstances and situations.....
ALSO, a more dimensional character allows the actors to really act and have fun withi it.

I have seen so many actors totally bored with their unnatural 1-dimensional roles. Sure it makes them money and it is clear they are doing it just as a job, just to cross it of their chores list.

When you see an actor who is really into their role, experimenting, creating the character, bringing the character to life, having fun with their role, it is a totally wonderful magic experience - for the actor, and for the audience. It doesnt have to be a "fun" role, it can be a serious role, but it is clear the actor is committed to it and it is real to them.

Actors really energetic and having fun in their role of course the most familiar, classic, obvious example is ML in Bon Appetit Your Majesty - and bc of his high energy and enthusiasm, the role made him into a star. Currently airing such roles are ML in Scarecrow, ML in Reverse, SML, SFL, FL in Our Happy Days, ML in Our Happy Days when he is able to relax and act :( Uncle and somewhat FL's dad and ML's dad in Recipe for Love, FL in Sold out On You in ep 1 selling scenes, etc if you look into old dramas, main female villain in Glory whowas then FL in Nice Not to Meet You, etc.... In First Man, it is BH actor, he is soooo natural, BH is as if he were a real person.

I think the drama that nailed the gender balance and has a solid FL and reasonably realistic ML is Our Happy Days. That drama, the more I watch it, the more I am convinced is a total keeper and a masterpiece. One amazing family drama to remember, like Once Again, etc.

I love how the village has common sense. Bo Mi and her mom coffee shop owner are such powerful, down to Earth women.

The eldest son is a mommy boy, he is too weak, and his mother is a narcissistic moron weak dumb snowflake chasing money and social status, as so many kdrama parents are portrayed to be....

So yeah Eldest Son does not deserve Bo Mi.

A company employee, I think, married to chaebol daughter who was ill. I think that husband first killed off the old Chairman? and then the husband and the caretaker of the chaebol daughter together conspired and killed the chaebol daughter and took the company. The reward to the caretaker was that she became the Chairman's wife. So here they are, the two of them - Chairman and his wife.

It is hitting me more and more - SIMPLE IS SO RICH AND COMPLEX ... AND POWERFUL.. IMPACTFUL... THis drama has no ridiculous plots and crazy bloody twists etc, it is all about so-called ordinary people living so-called ordinary lives, and the plot is seemingly simple BUT... it is not :) it is super complex... adn the drama is interesting and seems real. This is a classic masterouce n the making, an excellent family drama - and since it is a daily, it is "family and business" drama with many interrelated characters TOTALLY INCREDIBLE AMAZING

Bc it is so deceptively simple, there is time for all details, AND THE ACTORS CONVEY THE DETAILS.... so the drama is a SUPER RICH TAPESTRY of characters and stories, it is super deep!!! and extremely interesting. This could work with a crew less skilled and/or director who gives wrong instructions....

As all characters are complex in that "ordinary way" - they are all so-called "ordinary" and share issues of the majority of the population, BUT they are also unique, contradictory, complex, layered, etc AND THEY SEEM REAL. Like we are there witih these real people living their life.

The characters keep surprising us.. Like that doting grandpa who just took the pic out of the pendant!!!!! did anyone expect that? That says a lot about him!!!! no matter how tame he looks, he is a cemented patriarchal male and also an entitled Boss. And, he is not into cell phones... So ... we have been watching a tiger often in sheep's clothing...

SFL with her dilemma and her stiff handling of it is ... omg funny tragic scary, amazing acting... She is one of my favorites to watch. Not bc I like that character - I am not too fond of her character actually - but I love ACTING of that character, SO FUN TO WATCH! SFL is made soooo complex and interesting. A perfectly poised porcelain doll that is starting to crack under pressure... and SFL would not be so interesting without MH, bc MH allows that porcelain doll to actually become a real live person and live and enjoy her life. So we see what SFL *could* be if she lets herself be. Fascinating.
and so on ... each actor has a complex character and makes it REAL

AND THE DRAMA GOES THROUGH THE COMPLEXITIES AND LAYERS in a pace that is natural and comfortable. This is possible only bc of excellent acting, excellent script, excellent director, excellent music, excellent camera, and excellent production. As far as I can tell as an amateur :) There is probably other excellent stuff I dont even know about.. like... getting money and approval to make this? etc

This drama is like eating a very simple but freshly made meal with organic and fresh ingredients.. Very satisfying... The quality is totally on par with the miniseries. I love dramas like this where older actors, new and upcoming actors, actors who didnt go through plastic sugery to make themselves look like aliens witih triangular ffaces and who did not lose 200lbs to become ghosts to act in miniseries. etc etc - where ANYONE can act. I find it refreshing and wonderful. That's why I watch dailies these days - to see REAL PEOPLE acting. Not plasticized skeletons.

This drama is hitting me really hard bc I am watching Reverse at the same time. Reverse has great acting too but the plot is not made about growth of characters but about a mind game of solving this puzzle, thi mystery. So it is ... very ... hm... mental? but not emotionally captivating. you cant really get INTO the characters bc you are busy solving their crimes lmao

Here, in this drama, I feel like I am a fly on the wall in the lives of these people who are REAL.
I will think some more how to describe it. I am not a trained actor, only some training in improv vomedy, which I LOVE. This drama reminds me of quality improv comedy. One of the best skits I have ever seen is "dad and daughter" waiting to get a haircut and talking about mom etc. there was NOTHING funny IMPROV COMEDY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE FUNNY - this skit was actually somewhat sad, but it was still ALIVE - the acting was sooo deep, I remember that performance to this day.

That is the thing that is fascinating. What exactly is it in acting that makes the character seem REAL and pulls the audience in. A certain presence, a certain ... 100% confidence? ease? naturalness? what is it... ? presence? on the actor's part, becoming that character. This drama definitely has that. Like ... the actor is committed and not thinking anything else but is in the skin of the character.

And now I go outdoors and then back to work :)

Yes he is so nice to SFL... In other situations he is not nice.. so he gotta grow.
I love the actor's making this character very lively, with the pearly smile and radiant vibrant energy and communication, he is like a ray of sunshine on the screen, extremely attractive and charming

Lawyer Mom was in true love with the Professor and quite well raised two adopted boys. Although she is cliueless and materialistic and an awful judge of character (pushing JH onto BH, pushing JH to marry into a rich family, not seeing Prof's cheating and emotional distance for decades and cheating recently, not seeing JH's emotional distance for decades now... ) still.... she is a decent person.

Professor's wife is a GENUINE decent person, woman. mother, and when she gets correct information, she acts on it.

And yeah, once that gold frog comes out...
