GJM edited this drama himself for the first time. It's better to concentrate on directing new dramas, that he's…
I could in fact forgive any editing error if it was a 30 episode drama. Some scenes clearly had thinner context than what they had potential for. I wonder what possessed to make it a 29 ep drama?
I was sad to see it end.
Some of the editing was really cool, however, some of the timey-wimey stuff was truly a delight to watch and at times truly did convey how exhausting it was to live the time lines. I am an avid Dr who fan, so I did follow it all just fine π There was a lot of justice done to pretty much every character, I don't know how he found time to do that with so many secondary characters, all with interesting back stories and progressions. By the end of it I was immersed and remained so. I really believed in the ambitions and powers of every character, some of the visuals were beyond cool. There's a lot going for this drama.
This is a perfectly cast drama that suffers some form editing only, the storyline is in my opinion continuously entertaining and even smaller roles serve a very real purpose. This is by no means a 8.1 drama in any way, it must be the at times jarring editing that has thrown people off. Don't get me wrong, the delivery in every other way is very, very good. It is intensely difficult to edit some aspects of this drama, the reveals we're all edited very well, it's what seemingly 'didn't make final cut' that many scenes allude to that perhaps cause some people to not follow through with their emotional attachment.
I was however extremely attached throughout, in fact I thought the weakest parts were the initial episodes, it's a true rarity for a drama to gain speed through to the end and not fizzle out.
For new viewers, this story is far more complex than what the first few episodes insinuate - you do in fact not know what's to come, no, you've not seen THIS (quite like this) before.
I'll say it again, I thought genuinely Ju Jing Yi was possibly one of the top 3 worst leading actresses - yet gives great face card in China. She's at her very best in this, never seen a role better suited for her. I actually loved all her scenes, but what an odd feeling, only under Guo could she shine like this.
Guo really knows how to write interest, how to keep it, although the editor should be scolded for leaving at least 5 missing episodes of context on the editing floor.
For years I was convinced she gave face and couldn't act, then Ju Jing Yi lands the perfect role for her, couldn't be more fitting and I'm convinced she's had to wade through the thickness of ill fitting roles to find this perfect fit.
The rating makes absolutely no sense what so ever, ignore it.
The leads have very good chemistry and the ML has serious intensity, bit like a cat, is he going to scratch you up or not.
Nothing wrong with this drama, compared to the cringe of most historical dramas out there. At times it was really entertaining. I had to vote it higher as somebody has to prop this drama up.
Fated Hearts and Wonderland of love, above recommended, were far, far worse. I tried to watch both and the makeup, storyline and the cringe was so intense it was an impossible task. In fact, I have such a ridiculous high content viewing history, there are at least 10 dramas in the past year that are rated higher, but are absolute tosh. Actors and actresses have their fan voting, which the flower system was supposed to represent, SUPPOSED To.
Your review is very nice but what does overexposed mean?? Will you please explain.. I am bit slow in understanding
It means they are in many dramas lately, but really it's not because they are amasing at the acting profession, hut because they are extremely attractive. There are beautiful actresses who also can act of course, but the trend lately is to feature a handful of actresses over and over again. The FL here is pretty, but she's not just a *face* and I'd rather women like her act with established male leads. Now, I don't count Bailu as just a face, she is gorgeous and very talented, as is Lusi, there are however some actresses out there who continuously gets leading lady roles and they mostly just bring the ethereal beauty card.
I do believe she lead on that she chooses to not use her full potential, as we saw when she killed the banner…
Yea, she breaks rules of having no emotional connection tk the world, more than once. She loves hanity and cannot watch them suffer. This causes her to break her dao and she chooses not to advance at the cost of abandoning humanity.
She goes berserker mode extremely early, instead of in the final 3 episodes, has a good cry and decides she gone and learned a lot here.
I really liked that. Oh shi-- my bad, won't do that again.
And the fact that she chooses not to use her full potential, breaks her own dao thus hampering her own cultivation - all because she cannot watch humanity suffer and not intervene. The ep with the old Banner man was really good.
I do fairly hate the memory erasure plot, I understand it makes things a bit softer, after all she lost her shi-- within first 3 episodes, but she really grew there and solidified what cultivation is to her.
enjoying this drama. i canβt wait until the FL gets stronger i hope we see her kick butt ππ½ππ½ππ½ππ½
I do believe she lead on that she chooses to not use her full potential, as we saw when she killed the banner guy from that dark sect in his own realm. She actively chooses to break her own dao rules.
This is the best drama right now. FL isn't annoying, I repeat she's far less annoying than most FLs right now.
I'm so glad Ren Jialun has a good drama again FINALLY.
I've watched hundreds of dramas and I'm not bored, I'm not fast forwarding anything. Support cast is all good, especially the elders are an abundance of fun. I've not read source material, so I have no preconceived notions about where this is going scene to scene.
I'm having fun, and I've not had fun in so very long.
Not a single actress in this drama annoys me, which makes it feel very fresh, even though it probably isn't.
If you like light cultivation, the ML and a fresh FL who isn't just giving Face, you should be watching, yes.
It's rude to list all the actresses that are overly exposed and that make it difficult to finish dramas, this year it's been difficult to finish a single 2026 drama. If you notice a lack of completed 2026 dramas in my catalogue on my page, well now you know why. It's become too face heavy in the past 2 years.
Honestly, some of these overexposed leading ladies probably shouldn't be lead this often considering there are women like this fresh FL. She's missing the haughtiness and she doesn't have that annoying element where she knows she's mainly a *face* with moderate acting skills.
I was sad to see it end.

FL reminds me strongly of a very young Cecilia Liu at times. Think Scarlet Heart young.

Ju Jing Yi found a role she does very well, truly.
I'm 2 episodes in and fantastically bored.
That's not supposed to happen.
My favourite character is the Sabre and when it slams into the floor, making someone look like he shat pants everytime.
