Casting in C-ent relies heavily on connection of companies, resources exchange and investors' choices. It's hard to get what the audience want.

If through popularity only, he would have out of job long time ago. There are investors, industry, platform, word of mouth etc consideration for the success of drama. Most of Tencent X Theater has reputation of delivering intact plot unlike the usual idol drama (traffic-driven) which can be added with unnecessary plot. How it's gonna help Kai? This kind of drama requires acting skills so this kind of script will help Kai hone his acting. Kai being approached for this script is actually an honor to him because the production sees his past results and wanted him in this kind of drama. It's called X Theater because it contains mystery, conflict. suspense.
