I never read the novel but that did feel out of character for him....

It's 40 episodes long... We ain't going to get into the politics right away. They gotta establish the relationships between our characters so it justifies their actions once the real plot begins. Why they fell for each other? Why they go till the ends of the earth for each other? I can understand issues with pacing if you don't enjoy slice of life stuff, but I do. I'm thoroughly enjoying the calm before the storm. And let's be honest, it's not so calm.... there's important stuff happening but you don't know the full story. But when we do know, the reveal will be so much sweeter. So just enjoy the ride.

The soundtrack from when they kiss up until her trying on the hand cuffs.... art. My eyes were swelling just hearing the scene, so heart wrenchingly beautiful.

It can't be because through that scene they unintentionally established they love each other. He asked her to wait, she said I choose you. The moment she finds out about his transcription, she is already waiting for him. I hope not. It won't be misunderstanding, but maybe stubbornness...

Yes honesty is important but you're not putting yourself in these peoples shoes. Being honest is difficult considering his circumstance and her lack of courage. It's easy to say be honest but isn't actually easy to do that. He could tell her his identity, but knowing might make her hate him or put her in even more danger. We aren't in his position, we are just watching from the outside. She could confess, but she's afraid of being rejected or heartbroken considering he's leaving soon. I think the show is doing pretty well so far, the FL is more forward than most I've seen, especially in a historical cdrama. And yes, it is contrived, it's a drama... lol It's all tropes.

Yeah they're married but it wasn't exactly a love marriage... so they can't do it as easily as a normal couple. I guess Yan Zheng hesitates falling too deep for her cause he knows he has to leave. Chang Yu hesitates cause she just a shy girl lol

No it isn't attractive, nor do I want them to get together while she is drunk. But in her case, I think she just needed some liquid courage. She is not as shy as most girls which is interesting, but Yan Zheng doesn't make it too easy lol

I really liked the scene where Changyu is looking at Xie Zheng and the crowd disappears and I think, realizes she's falling in love with him. I didn't fully understand her words, but I want to ask whether those words she said were straight from the novel?

Oh I thought the same, like just come by and help her and cause they seem to have plenty of time on their hands they’d be with her most days. They also seemed resolved to help her. But since she closed the shop, I’m just wondering if they back to their looting lol thought they might ask to join her at the big restaurant.
