On Perfect Crown Apr 29, 2026
EDIT:
MEA CULPA - my apologies for calling YeAn the "Crown" Prince. I meant GRAND Prince but this simply shows that I'm only paying half attention to all of the names and titles. Plus the title of the drama is Perfect CROWN. So, mega apologies. I'm really sorry.

Based upon the answers, I'm going to write a new post explaining the reason why I asked the question in the first place.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

If this was answered already in Ep 5/6 (I've only red recaps), please forgive me and be cordial in your response.

If both the King and the Crown Prince were to die, what is the succession?

If anyone wants to know how the succession, regency and duties work in a constitutional monarchy, have a look…
I think there is one major difference (unless I misunderstood something) but the King appoints the Prime Minister in this drama - which frankly doesn't make sense in a "constitutional" monarchy. But - if a I was the writer - this would be a major "twist" if the PM turns out to be disloyal.

I wish people who dislike this drama would express their dislike for it without looking down on those who like…
I have often said on MDL that the world would be a very boring place if we all agreed all the time. Name-calling is childish (ooops, I just labeled😂😂).

didnt understand the 4th point as in she got pregnant before marriage???? where is this news from??? I AN takes…
I like the character of Ye An, but dislike Hui-ju so much that I've paused and only read recaps.

There is no evidence that she got pregnant just to marry the crown prince. She was "engaged" to the crown prince from the cradle apparently - or at least engage before she ever met the crown prince.

But I think you are right that she was pregnant before she married and - crazy theory - Ye An might be the father. The vague hints are there on the official website. Although she was destined (engaged) to marry the Crown Prince , according to the official website, "she actually met her future brother in law grand prince lee ahn before her fiance the crown prince. " Also, "Yi-rang's past encounter with Grand Prince I-an led her to develop feelings for him despite her engagement to then Crown Prince I-hwan."

Her signature quote: "If I knew you would be king, I wouldn't have given you up."

Ya-an tried to stop the wedding. What did he know???

gong seung yeon is eating everyone else up with her acting HOLY! the diction omg
I guess I've kinda put this drama on pause because I haven't bothered to watch Eps. 5-6 yet. But at some point I will, if for no other reason than to watch and listen ("diction" - perfect description) to her.

So, perhaps he is eyeing a potential alliance with the Business Class? Or, the Political Class? Jeon-Woo's bio also says something about shifting between the reform movement and. . I don't remember. Unfortunately, I don't care about any of the characters but I do like the overall "story" and thus the continuity/connect-the-dots will determine whether I enjoy this to the end. Always enjoy reading your thoughtful posts @:HRH Sankkoch. 😊

I don’t know why, but these days I’ve got this feeling…JJy might not be the real villain 👀It feels like…
I absolutely agree. "Jin Mu's" power stems from his relationship to his grandson. He would have had no reason to hurt the royal family in the past.

I haven't watched with a heavy interest, but at one point I thought the narrative was that there was some sort of reform movement that wanted to abolish the monarchy? Because even if largely ceremonial, the populace loves the royal family and it is a stabilizing presence in the country.

Good advice, but I personally use the IBB mantra.

Title Climax
I actually started watching it for these two women 😭then I saw the ratings getting lower and lower so I thought…
The two women angle is not the main story, although it is one of many side-plots that contributes to the roller coaster. This is a drama with ambitious people who play a high-stakes game and use/manipulate others for their personal goals. I loved 90% of it (and hated 10%), but if you think the GL is the main story, you will be disappointed.

"psychotic" was exactly the word...
Yeah, and I gave "Climax" 9⭐. Psychotic, but not gory/overly violent and I was on Team Bang from the beginning. And, I assume, I will be on Team Matthew in this drama. If it includes too many cliches, I'll drop but I'm hopeful.

I've watched Disney kdramas before and the subs were always good - in sync with the dialogue. Crown Prince is truly awful. I understand a bit of Korean, so sometimes I know what they are saying w/out the sub-titles. but the gaps in this drama are inexcusable.

I was looking forward to this drama because of the Joseon Survives to the 21st Century story, but thus far I'm not a major fan. Nevertheless, I AM interested in some of the palace intrigue and don't understand the following. Why does Queen Mother believe that Grand Prince Yi-ah is a threat? Her son is the Crown Prince - his position is absolutely air tight according to hereditary law.

Unless, of course, her son is NOT royal blood. Now THAT would be a problem. But thus far, no hint of that.

And why does she think that if Yi-ah married some nobody royal, it would somehow cement her position? I honestly don't get it.

What. Did. I. Miss???

"Although she occasionally wonders what life would be like if Yi An had been the crown prince instead, I Rang…
Okay, let's put our "makjang/twist" hats on and look at this.
Queen Mother saying her son was "the very likeness of the late king?" Hello. . . dead giveaway. After all the two brothers look very similar. So, her comment means nothing. actually a potential cover-up.

The King needing his uncle? Again. . .kdramas love the mythical "blood bond".

I'm not saying it's real but Queen Mother's attraction (and prior meeting w/Yi-an) tells me. . . .it's possible. But I don't really like that sort of easy resolution.

Yi-an gay???? @sweetnothings, you're killin' me.

I haven't paid attention to all of the details/flashbacks, but what was with that scene where Yi-an tried to talk his brother out of the marriage? Also, according to the character descriptions, Queen Mother knew Yi an before meeting his older brother. Can't help but wonder if that little Crown Prince is really Yi-an's son but would really hate that sort of twist.

On The Judge Returns Apr 19, 2026
Ji Sung nominated for Baeksang Best Actor for his role in "The Judge Returns."

The role certainly required the character to portray a wide variety of emotions from cold, humorless judge (2035) to revenge driven to non-stop antics/schemes.

What if LHY gets married to another person in season 2 👀👀
Ji Sung said in an interview that "Hanyoung couldn’t love Sehee. Because in a situation where he had returned and didn’t know when he would go to another world again or die or what would be the end, rather than starting a normal love again with someone, he probably wanted to protect Yoo Sehee . . . . That’s why he stayed by her side."

So, if there is a season 2, the character would presumably continue to avoid any romantic entanglements.

However, at some point, the two of them have a connection that can't be ignored. He made two choices that were significantly different from the past and any Season 2 will need to address them. 1) He changed the future w/r/t Judge Baek, and 2) he did not marry Se-hui.

Okay, agreed. And I love the fact that for so many kdrama viewers, Jo Jae Yun is and will forever more be known as "Jin Mu" - a truly iconic villain.
