Guess we'll have to agree to differ as far as this particular movie goes, and this isn't really the right forum for a debate on the wider point. Have to say, though, that I disagree that there's a homophobia problem in the movie industry itself nowadays. The industry is primarily driven by commercial considerations. I think they'd have no problem with depicting a m/m or f/f romance at the core if they thought it would be a major financial success. It's many consumers that still have a way to go. And personally, I rarely watch films that are primarily about m/f romances. I have no problem with it, I'm just not that interested. Does that make me HETEROPHOBIC?

LOL. You think that's happening now??? Try going back thirty or forty years and look at the gay / BL coverage then. You'll find hardly any, and what you do will almost always be negative. Yes, their relationship was under-developed. But how was BL relevant to the basic plot? Compare books to films. These are invariably longer and contain a lot more detail and sub-plot. Much has to be stripped away to fit the story into the length of a film. Now, had it been a series that was padded out with other stuff but avoiding the BL element of the original manga, I'd be agreeing with you.
Oh, come on! It was hard enough to concentrate on the plot with Shison Jun just being on screen. There was nothing particularly 'gay', or I'd still have the film on pause or replaying constantly on a loop!

I'm not conversant with the full manga version, but in terms of the underlying plot here, how is BL relevant? Personally, this is exactly what I hope one day mainstream movies will be like. Str8/gay/bi/whatever is a character side issue that isn't even commented on, unless that is key to the fundamental plot of course.
It was probably intended for people who's already seen the original material or whatever, because I felt like…
Came here pretty much thinking the same thing, then saw "adapted from the manga". For the first two-thirds of the film there seemed so much of the story jumped or skipped over. There was just enough continuity though to keep me watching and I'm glad I did. The last third was worth it!
.... just ..... Brilliant! :-) I have five episodes of season one to go. I doubt I can stretch them over twelve hours, let slone twelve weeks. Wonder if I could just watch them, then go immediately into hibernation until December? ... OMG! Just realised this show airs weekly, not streamed all in one go. So even when season two does start, we have to keep suffering withdrawal over and over again. Some people are just really, really, mean!
Sooo loving this! There are some excellent characters, and it's often funnier than shows that claim to be comedies. My main concern is that at some point (soon!) I will run out of episodes to watch.
I can agree with you. It really felt like 2 hours of foreplay and 4 seconds of actual sex. The build up and underwhelming…
Can't help feeling this too should have a spoiler alert. May not have much detail, but now I have quite a big clue where something might be heading that I would much rather not have.
Is everyone else squeamish or am I just insensitive? I had hardly any 'turn my eyes away' moments, and I think in many cases it was probably more realistic than shows that play the gore down. The storyline is far from new but works. Only a 6 from me though. The story didn't grab me enough to actually care about what happened to any of the characters. Leading man was gorgeous though ... that's always a bonus!
Thanks, I don't know why people keep adding Thai shows to different lists. Even though, there is a separate Thai…
It would be interesting to know where the members who do that come from. I think most westerners understand that China and Japan are somehow different, but I'm not convinced we all realise there are other countries in that part of the world too.
These lists are mainly pointing out to me just how many shows I've added to my 'Watch' list that I haven't got around to watching yet. It probably doesn't help that every time I do watch something I come here to MDL to update my list and find two or three new ones to add!
I'm not sure that I can say this, but the umtamed is so overrate for the bromance elements. There are just a few…
Of course you can (and should) say it! I absolutely loved 'The Untamed'. Highly enjoyable as a story and, yeah, lots of eye-candy ... but no way would I consider it BL. In fact, I came to the comments section to say exactly the same thing (without the reasons why it's probably here, which are spot on). I've voted for it as my number 2, but purely 'cos it was here and because most of my Chinese BL stuff is still on my 'To Watch' list, not 'Watched'.
Afterthought: 'The Untamed' is a great example of how I hope one day all mainstream drama will be. Relationships are there, but whether straight or gay is irrelevent to the plot ... unless that's specifically what the plot is about, of course.
OMG. Pearl is like one of the BEST things in this show. Without her, they dynamic and fun of the series would…
So often the main female lead in BL shows is at best just a space filler and at worst extremely annoying. I've actually dropped shows that were otherwise enjoyable because I found that character so annoying. But Pearl? Absolutely integral to this show, absolutely hilarious at times, and absolutely I wish I'd had a 'Pearl' in my life!
This is the second time they have done that, believe it or not
Hmmm. Maybe you should start a new poll or list: "Members Who Are Idiots". Fairly sure once one or two names were on there, others would start being a lot more careful in checking their facts.
PS: Happy for mine to be the first name on the list. I hopefully won't make the mistake of adding something that shouldn't be there, but I'm very good at being an idiot in many aspects of life.
