Na Young was raised in the same environment as Soo Ji. While it would not be unexpected that there is sibling rivalry, even dislike, the level of hatred exhibited by Na Young is far beyond the norm and, in my opinion, cannot be explained or excused by her upbringing.

With Hyun Sung, he is the only son of two successful people, who (as is the usual drama depiction) probably did not have much time for him. That he grew up selfish and entitled might not be so unexpected. However, the extreme possessiveness and inability to accept Soo Ji's stated feelings and decision again, in my opinion, cannot be explained or excused by his upbringing.

Like you, I suspect that there is something lurking in his 10 years away. If he was/is so obsessed with Soo Ji, why did he not even try to keep in touch or come back?

Excellent point, and something I, too, had forgotten. At some point, she will realise that he has seen her at her lowest and is still there.

Ep 39, raises both options, but as it is Woo Ri who considers trauma, I think we can assume it is that scenario.

Good point. Is it possible that she subconsciously recognises that Woo Ri is trained to identifying the causes of trauma? Right now, she is not ready to allow anyone to get close and help.

I sincerely hope so, but this show is not yet one-third complete...

I think that at this moment in time, she has so little trust in others that this is a reflexive defence mechanism to keep everyone away so that she cannot get hurt again. Hopefully, the Court Yard family can show her what a true family is: love and respect without demands and expectations.

I have not seen the preview yet, but if that is the case, there is a very concerning scenario that came to my mind.
Will Soo Ji be worried about Hyun Sung because of what she knows about Na Young?
Will she try to intervene to "save" him?
And, thus, will it add lots more fuel to Hyun Sung's delusion that Soo Ji is his personal property?

My mistake. I would have to go back and check to see if (and when) Hyun Sung and Na Young might have met. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that such is his fixation with Soo Ji, Hyun Sung does not really "see" anyone else. Woo Ri was only on his radar because he was viewed as a romantic rival.

I agree that the extreme stress of maintaining her success must have been immense. Add to that the fact that this has been done without anyone supporting her, with a "family" that just takes, takes, and then asks for more.

Yes, Woo Ri will be the person who will help heal her, but nothing will happen until she learns to trust again. Perhaps that will not happen until she discovers who her real mother is and understands (and accepts) what happened.

At this moment, I am willing to accept Soo Ji rudely ignoring the family that is trying to help her. I am also willing to suspend disbelief that a psychiatrist can be so willfully ignorant of their own health. Clearly, she has been an island unto herself, and has suffered because of that. And, her family has been a bunch of leeches, which will make her wary of any offer of help. But my acceptance is not unlimited.

What stuck me, yet again, is the absolute delusional and contemptuous disregard Hyun Sung has towards the person he purports to love. In his conversation with his father, he stated "Soo Ji will come back." and "No matter what happens, I will marry Soo Ji." Dude, she has turned you down in front of both sets of parents. Then, she writes a note saying let's end this, and we should have ended it 10 years ago. His response: "no matter what, I will marry her."

The problem with the 10 years of dating was that Hyun Sung was in a different country (studying? working?). While he might have been under the illusion that they were still a couple, it is clear that they did not see each other during that time. So, it is not improbable that he does not recognise her sister, especially if he did not see them during the college time. Note, none of her family appear to have known about Hyun Sung before he announced he will marry Soo Ji.

It is just some consensus, not necessarily a majority or unanimous. I do think that there is a major scandal lurking within Hyun Sung's family.

I am sure that there were many instances of the guilt card being played. I wonder how many times Soo Ji heard "Be grateful that we took you in after your mother abandoned you."? Then, she became successful and was promoted to "Family debit card".

Are you referring to Hyun Sung's conversation with his mother? Most of it was just him playing the ultra victim -- "she has left without a trace, so I will never get another chance" 😭

However, I got the sense of another story arc; namely, him blaming his parent's (lack of) relationship for all his problems. Perhaps it will help him "bond" with Na Young who has had an awfully tough life thanks to Soo Ji.

I think Na Young will see this as taking something from Soo Ji, such is her inferiority complex.

I am afraid Na Young gets worse.

Seon Young is not Woo Ri's biological mother, and therefore he is not blood related to Soo Ji. However, there is some consensus that he is the son of Ma Ri (Hyun Sung's mother).
