To be honest, I had not heard of Our Times: Light in the Desert, but am going to look for it over the weekend. By coincidence, a good friend of mine is from Uganda and he is working a project with his father. The plan is to build a large solar farm to provide electricity to their town, and also feed into the electricity grid.

I also noted the "I cannot be a doctor" statement, and do not disagree with the fact that he does not have to be a neurosurgeon.

However, we have to remember that his career and "life" as a neurosurgeon". Clearly, to him surgeon and doctor were one and the same. When he could no longer operate, he no longer thought of himself as a doctor. My daughter is a general surgeon, and I really do not know how she would react if she could no longer operate, and how long it would take her to overcome that loss.

In flashbacks in earlier episodes. it seems that both his fine motor skills and his vision were affected. We have to remember that he was a neurosurgeon, not a family doctor, and that requires exceptional control of his motor skills and excellent vision.

I quickly checked the weather forecast for both Shanghai and Suzhou, and the daytime temperature will be around 9 C tomorrow. Definitely not tropical, but within "skirt-wearing" temps, at least by Canadian standards.

Having lived in Hong Kong, I can attest that the food there was much better than in most Westernised Chinese restaurants. Mind you, there is a a very large Chinese diaspora in the area I live in (Markham), so the food quality is closer to China quality.

In case people think that the "the food abroad is terrible" statement is merely for dramas, my ex-wife, who I met in Hong Kong, stated that her mother made better moussaka than they had on a 2-week trip to Greece!

I loved how he asked for an increase in his allowance for the photos. Plus, how he knew when not to be the proverbial third wheel.

From the other side of the aisle, it is really lovely to see a confident woman step forward to show everyone and their cousin (puns intended), "I am by his side. Do not mess with him."

I suspect that the budget did not extend to flying the actors and film crew for such a small part of 1 of 36 episodes.

And to be honest, a green screen is not the most egregious thing I have seen regarding depictions of London. As a born and raised Londoner, possibly the worst was an action film where the lead was seen driving north on Tower Bridge only to end up in the Surrey countryside. This is impossible for two reasons, Tower Bridge is in the centre of London and kilometres from any countryside, and Surrey is to the Southeast of London.

I do not disagree that the pathway is problematic. For me, the issue is where/when did he do his clinical training/residency. The problem is that he is listed as an attending physician. If the resume had said resident physician, then it is slightly more believable.

It is the same in Canada. With a few exceptions, medical school is entered after a student has an undergraduate degree.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views. These are usually based on personal experience, perspectives, and beliefs. I am one those who is enjoying the overall pace of this story. There is something somewhat relaxing and relatable about gentle interplay between the characters as they have gone through the different stages of their relationship. In my experience, there have been many series that have gone from the first meeting to the full blown relationship/marriage with very little in between.

Fair point. I have not seen the actual scene; I was recalling what had been said before and extrapolating. I deliberately put good father in quotations to show that I do not think he has been one.

I did a quick check. Like the U.K. and Europe, medical degrees in China are undergraduate, not post-graduate. So, yes, Yu Sen could gone straight into a PhD programme at Johns Hopkins after completing his Chinese studies.

According to Clause 5.17, they will accept applicants under the age of 18, which would fit what Yu Sen said about starting school earlier than most.

That would be a nice thought, but I recall several comments about him having financial troubles (including delaying payments to Shengyuan. So, I suspect that he is just trying raise cash rather than be a "good father".

Given the dominance that China has in both the production of PVs and the installation of solar farms, why shouldn't it "sell" the industry?
