The script spiralled down into complete rubbish from ep 20 onwards, maybe earlier. The FL's performance has got to be the most expressionless non-acting I've seen so far in a cdrama, she was just monotonously reciting the lines with dead eyes and wooden face. The chemistry between the leads plummeted below zero, the few romantic scenes alternated between cringeworthy and creepy. The ending was complete nonsense. This is going to be a 4 rating for me only because poor Zhen Che Yuan did his best to save it, otherwise it'd be 1.

On ep 28, Meng Ting Hui to the emperor: "I am yours, my sovereign". Again, with the expressionless face and the dead eyes. It's just creepy.

I really hope Zhi Li doesn't get blinded by loyalty to her master. I like her character, I find it well written and played. It'd be a shame if that disgusting Gu Qin keeps fooling her into believing he's a good guy.

Finished ep 6 and absolutely loving this drama. Great acting all around, but especially Ding Yu Xi and Ancy Deng, what a pair! Both Zhao Ling and Fu Ting Yun are survivors, they'll beat the odds to stay alive and make a stance for themselves through their cunning and inventiveness, their chemistry is stratospheric. Great direction and pacing, when the tension gets going it doesn't lose a beat. Solid storyline and very entertaining humour. I really hope it stays like this for the rest of eps, if it does this is going to be a corker of a drama 🔥. Can't wait for ep 7.

She may not have had any surgery, but botox would explain the dead pan acting. She doesn't move a single muscle in her face. I'm not at all saying she's had botox because I have no idea, but it's either that or she's naturally wooden.

I won't be rewatching it because I actually feel sorry for Chen Zhe Yuan. When they pretended to kiss on the horse the poor guy looked like he was about to ask for someone to just kill him on the spot.

Yes, I thought she was the antithesis of seductive. She just half closed her eyes and that was supposed to convey desire. It conveyed cringe to me. The kiss on the horse was even worse, she was so stiff she looked like she had been impaled.

I have to disagree. I have seen her in another drama and she was also a wooden statue. The false dilemma 'wooden acting versus head shaking idol' is absurd. Good acting is outside those two choices.

I didn't ask you to tell me what to do. There are other actresses to enjoy watching? No shit, Sherlock! The fact that you consider my comment too harsh does not mean you are right. I have seen this actress in another drama and she's as entirely wooden through it as in this one. She's irritating me because I consider CZY a good actor with a decent range of expressions and she's ruining the drama for him. I will still carry on watching it because of him and I will still post my opinion about future eps. If you don't like it, please feel free to jog on.
