It was difficult but it wasn't impossible the way I see it,it was more of a worst case scenario that a woman inherits the throne.Even Empress Mathilda believed she had a claim to the throne back in the Middle ages,if that was impossible I doubt she would.I haven't read of any daughter of the Chinese Emperor who thought the same,I believe ancient Korea had a queen but that changed with Joseon dynasty where it was a no no,and Japan had more female rulers that England ever had for example,which is fascinating,but things were more complicated since the emperors daughters would marry close bood relatives.
