I am really torn about this since I also come from a country with a long history of confict with our neighbours.I'll be honest (even if I receive hate) and say thata number of Koreans are behaving really immature these days on social platforms.I understand that China claiming their cutural elements is terrible but it looks like they somehow wish to delete the Chinese from their history which is impossible and imo stupid.China was a huge empire with a great influence over the countries around it,but I've seen Koreans even claiming that Ming clothing are stolen from hanbok.Instead of accepting that cultures can get mixed, they accuse each other of stealing and don't want any Chinese references anywhere. On the other hand, the producers of this drama shouldn't have used a real king for the story,I also thought it didn't matter since it's fiction but then I found out that this is a very important figure in their history. And the end,it's a drama made for Korea,if Koreans find it too upsetting to watch there is no point in keeping it going.I wish they could sell it to netflix though because I seriously don't think this will have any impact on how foreigners see Korean history.

BH managed to survive in joseon because he knew history and knew how things worked back then unlike the queen...…
I don't think she would be like a newborn.I mean if Bonghwan had her memories in her body and knew how to play that musical organ, wouldn't she have his memories in his body? And his skills would slowly come out I guess based on the show's mechanics.

I can't say I'm not disappointed by the ending. If they really wanted Soyong back they could have surprised us by saying that Bong Hwan had actually left the body since the queen collapsed earlier in the series and Soyong hadn't realised because she still had his memories. Then in the final episodes she would realise it was her all along and thus we would have the same woman who had the romance with the king.I understand that Soyong was in the body the whole time but that doesn't make her the same person as Sobong, she is still a woman of her era while Sobong wasn't.The best ending for me would be to leave Bonghwan in the body to find his happiness in Joseon with all the friends he/she made, and have Soyong get in his body and have the time of her/his life in 2021 as a free person.I get it that Bonghwan had a life to go back to but if that as a female they would have made her stay in Joseon with her lover no matter how good of a job and life she had in the modern era.

I don't know how they can make it a happy ending for 3 of them.chef goes back to his body- issue is king fell…
Soyong was obviously miserable enough with her life to give it away,I don't think she needs it back.Perhaps the best ending for her is to end up in the Chef's body and do everything she could never do as a woman in Joseon.Plus Mr Queen seems to be happy where she/he is right now and I doubt it's because of SY's memories since she doesn't care about Byung In at all as someone already pointed out.In the begining Bonghwan was desperate to get back so I wasn't sure how this could end well but in the latest episodes the queen is fighting for the man and for the kingdom with passion,I don't think that's a person who wants to go back.

[sighs...] REALLY WANTED to watch this drama when I saw the synopsis and Shin Hye Sun, BUT I was less interested…
I am not attracted to the male lead either however I don't think it matters,I sometimes like to stay for cute male leads if the plot is weak (but bearable) but this one is not.The plot is interesting, the comedy is good and the female lead rocks so it's worth it.Plus, the two leads actually have a good chemistry in their scenes together.

Am I the only one worried about uri royal baby though? With all the emotional stress she's been through and then…
I really doubt that that there is a medical reason for something bad to happen though, especially this early in the pregnancy. It's just that most dramas are being over dramatic when a character is pregnant.

I thought that too, but I think they need someone to lead now. And you know back then women in power was rare,…
The whole system is very different than what I'm used to from european history. The queen's distant relatives from the clan seem to be more powerful than her own father. If this was Europe the father (the brother if she had one) or the queen her self would become regent until the prince was of age and the other distant relatives wouldn't be as powerful.

I have another question regarding the throne situation.Aren't they supposed to wait until the Queen gives birth? If it's a boy, won't it be king? How can they just name another king?In the west, when a king or a prince died they would wait to see if the wife was pregnant,if so that meant they had an heir. What would they do in Joseon if a prince was born but they had another king on the throne?

I’m honestly sad this show is ending, out of everything that’s been airing this season this is seriously the…
You are right,I usually don't care for the female leads because they tend to be either boring or annoying in korean and chinese dramas,I mean if I want a good female character I'll watch a western tv show (sorry) but in this one,I only care for So Bong.I barely pay attention to the male lead when he is alone (partly because I don't find the actor attractive but also because he isn't that funny in his scenes without the queen) but their chemistry as a couple is fantastic and their scenes together are the best.I kind of wish we didn't need to have a man in a woman's body to get a strong female lead though,She could have been a modern day woman it would still be funny with all the changes in gender roles though the ages. Finally,I have to admit that female characters are getting better and better in korean dramas lately,I loved the one in Rookie Historian much more than the male lead there and the one in Secret Royal agent isn't bad either although she isn't that badass.

Why is this guy rarely in dramas?I've been wondering about him and Choi Woo Shik but I know that CWS is mostly a movie actor so how come Go Kyung Pyo is never casted?I don't know about his dramatic role abilities but I think he's pretty funny,I remember seeing him in SNL Korea and Naeil's Cantabile.

Wow,I am definitely watching this.I come from a country where similar events happened in 1973 (Greece),university students went into a strike against the military dictatorship that ruled the country. That was what triggered the restoration of democracy and I actually happen to be a student at the university where the strike started.I had no idea something similar had happened in S.Korea and even more tragic since there were so many deaths.I think this series can be very interesting and touching.

I don't understand why everyone seems upset about episode 18,I really don't hate Byung In that much (I mean,I hate him,he's so annoying but I don't hate that he exists plot-wise) and I kind of love that constant about-to-cry expression on his face because it makes the character even more dislikable.I am sceptical about the preview though,I was convinced So Yong is gone but hearing Byung In saying that about the memories makes me think that maybe this is not the case.Idk,this guy is so obsessed with the original queen that the most fitting thing for him would be to somehow put him in her body and leave him there forever lol.Too twisted?I watch weird stuff that's why.

wait, do yall think i should continue? i watched the first 2 eps, tried forcing myself to watch the 3rd ep, but…
The most fun part of the drama is the begining,if you don't like it then I doubt you are going to enjoy the rest. For me the first episodes were quite nice because I liked the chemistry between the leads and the funny parts but then the story slowly dies, the way things are done is pretty anticlimactic.

I can't understand whether the queen is actually dead for good and the Chef is actually into the king and just uses the whole "sharing a body with a woman" as an excuse because he's never been into men before ,or if they actually share the body.If the first is truth then I am comfortable with him finding happiness in another era as a woman, but if not I wouldn't consider him sharing a body with another person forever as a good ending.

Although the last couple of episodes felt unnecessary,I enjoyed the ending and I liked how they took time to show that the mayor's son was saved from a life of bitterness and probably crime.

Eric Bana in 'the Other Boleyn Girl' is still my favorite (and historically more accurate) portrayal of Henry…
It's interesting that you like the Philippa Gregory adaptations because I think they take their selves a little too seriously for what they are. They are also not the most accurate, the costumes are meh and they have included magic in the first two shows. Also they have managed to make every female lead very unlikable imo, even Catherine of Aragon!I always thought that the Tudors weren't meant to be exactly informative or even that deep, surely there were some serious and nicely done scenes (apart from Anne's execution,I also loved how they did Catherine Howard's) but it was mostly beautiful people wearing cute costumes and getting naked a lot and a dose of violence to get you into the historical mood .Meaning it was purely entertaining and it was very honest about it I think, even the acting was weird for a historical drama but we still loved it.The most accurate is the Wolf Hall as they mentioned above, yet I found it quite boring and I hated the costumes.
