Woman gets karmically punished repeatedly and doesn't realize that SHE is the problem. Exhibit A-C: A)You left your children alone for DAYS while your husband was doing shift work/on an active investigation. Your daughter dies as a result of YOUR negligence. B)You then blame your young son for the death of your daughter, resulting in you choosing to divorce your husband because he didn't want to treat his son like crap like you were. C)You remarry and have another daughter like nothing ever happened and decide to show up on your son's doorstep daughter in tow TEN YEARS LATER and try to take him against his will so your new daughter has a play toy in the form of an older brother. You don't care about your son or his feelings and again double down on blaming him for a death that YOU caused with your ADULT decisions. You then get into a deadly car accident, killing your new husband & causing you severe injuries that will need rehab so you can walk again....and you have the whole grain AUDACITY to question what you've done to deserve this? Are you fucking dumb? You narcissistic POS.
I really like the leads in this show, but the last show I watched with him I was disappointed by. 'Everyone Loves Me' is the show I'm talking about. I'm debating whether or not to start this one before it's finished airing. This one is airing very rapidly compared to the other shows that I'm watching daily/weekly. Anyone have any thoughts yet on this one? I think this one hits the midway point tomorrow. How is the pace and character development going?

Doesn't her new name mean "veiled sorrow"? Did I misread/hear her when she's walking through the snow repeating the words over and over? There weren't translator notes so I'm going based off of the sounds that I heard lining up with the name written later on. My ears aren't yet tuned to Mandarin like they are to some other languages so I might have misheard. Those tone variances really and truly are a bitch to learn.
For those wanting to start this drama. Episode 20 is a true midpoint of the show. Think of the first 20 episodes as a Season 1 and the next 20 as a Season 2. There are some closed storylines by episode 20, but a lot is still unfolding going into the second half. First 20 is the first paragraph in the show description.

I should have just watched the little piece she had to say about this show instead of letting the video play....girl...the slander on The Rise of Ning and Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue.....just...wow...wow...she just truly hates popular, pretty people....no matter how good their acting is or improves she just has to say something negative.
Every man that I see on screen is sus AF. Other than the 2 male leads and the ML's sidekick. RIP to the real ones, but damn....The guy who they were staying with when the whole caravan got ambushed...yeah...he the head bandit got to be. The Prince Ying that is grounding the 2ML so he wont investigate anything....so you in on it too huh? Since episode 18 we've had even more assaults on the female lead characters(the 3 female leads) at least one attempted rape each. What I'm getting at is, although I love this drama and the acting....this story is triggering AF and if you are reading a spoiler tag I'm going to assume that you are either watching the show or need spoiler info before proceeding further into the show. So this is me telling you...avoid if you can't handle this type of story. The women have left no crumbs with their performances. Their characters are entering into the cocoon stage of their metamorphosis as they shed their old lives and enter into a new chapter exactly at the midway point of the show. Storyline is still tight as all hell even though we've been given a lot of information we still have LOADS to unpack and uncover.
So after reading the comments more...wow...just wow. I've heard of editors taking artistic license, but if there were contracts in place for a specific story and they editing changed that ending...someone's career is about to blow up in their face. What in the production hell happened. Of all the times I would want AvenueX to be a snarky bitch with the tea it would be for this. (I've unfollowed her because her personal commentary on shows she didn't actually watch was getting a bit too much for me.) Anyone know any other Chinese-English youtube channels that might cover this Drama's drama...if you know what I mean?
I paused this one because I wasn't really in the mood for a modern show atm....the rating was like high sevens at the time I paused. I came back to check on things and it's at a 6.6? What in the derailment happened here?
I've paused midway through episode 17 because people be way too freaking happy and fluffy in a story of revenge before the midway point of a 40 episode drama....I've watched too many of these shows to not know that shit's about to go down & imma need like a five episode buffer to rip some painful bandaids off.
Does the Youku website not work for anyone else? I'm trying to watch a trailer, but it never actually loads. I've tried using my VPN to put me in Hong Kong to see it that would work. Yeah. That's what I'm thinking too with it being intentional, because she's too good of an actress in the other things I've seen her in to be this "flat" on accident. I'm hoping that the more we see of Ziqi's past the more rounded Mu Yao's character will be as well. I don't mind the "monster of the week" style episodes we've been having, but I just want to know more about them as people. Not just the two leads but the second leads as well. Because overall the main cast is very small so I want to spend time with them and see rather than be told things. I don't like the early concept of the info dump from the FL about the characters. I'm hoping that at the true halfway point they will feel more like people than like fictional characters in a "poorly written"(FL's feelings on the story) fictional world. For reference I'm also watching Pearl Girl at the same time so larger main cast with deeper connections to one another and true life or death stakes. So the back and forth is a bit jarring for my mind. Both great shows....just very different types of shows. One is an apple the other an orange, can't and shouldn't really compare them to be fair.
Is anyone else struggling with the lack of expression from Zhu Xu Dan in this? it's giving NPC on pause. I've seen her in other things where she's great so I can only assume it was either a character/directors choice. I'm just barely connecting with any of the characters yet & we're almost at the halfway point. I'm enjoying the show, don't get me wrong, it's just the writing is still very surface level at the moment & for a show that is only 32 episodes I would have thought we would be more "into the thick of it" by now.
Just finished episode 10. I'm going to need 2ML to stop being so righteous & thinking HIS way is the RIGHT way. He's so morally white that he is actually more dangerous to our FL than if he were morally black and not just grey like ML.
This is the main difference between the two MLs. One understands hardship and what fighting for your life means; the other only knows a life of luxury/peace and the law. He sees people as beautiful swans gliding on top of the water. He's not looking beneath the surface to see how much the swan has to paddle to stay afloat.
The ML is more of an antihero. He's able to move in and out of the shadows. Yes, he uses people like pawns, but he doesn't hide behind a false mask of morality to do it. His way may be brutal, but at least it's "honest" in it's brutality.
