I cant remember if this is based on a novel, but my personal thought is that she will get to merchant status and then he could marry her. Though he's noble they arent super high and he's been divorced. I'm at least hoping he has the common sense, that when he does finally ask her to be his, that it's as his wife and NOT as a concubine.

At this point I'm starting to wonder if the Du Siblings are actually siblings at all or of they are just two spies working together to ruin the Lin family. Someone is giving them tons of money and resources outside of the Lin family.
Did they first put Lin Jin Qi in danger so that Du Zheng could save him? Du Zheng has been targeting Lin Xiu Wan since the banquet. Purposefully wearing the same clothes as her betrothed and then making it so he had to change clothes. The "siblings" also knew that the betrothed was a scholar and would recognize the flower in Jin Qi's hair. So while the brother worked below, this sister worked from above trying to ingratiate herself with the sisters. She just didnt know that Jin Qi and Lin XiuRu are smarter and with Xu LanXiang being as smart as she is they were all on to her quickly. But the brother still wasnt looked at as a real threat by them until recently and still only Lin XiuRu is on to both of them. Also praise everything above that First Madame is smart enough to listen to/follow Xu LanXiang. Seems like everyone other than JinQi's father in the First branch are smarter. Lin Xiushu(4th young lady) is still just a baby and doesn't yet know how to keep her thoughts on the inside.

So as of ep 11 the parents are set on a path to ruin their childrens' lives for no other reason than pettiness and refusing to clear up a misunderstanding because of pride. but im sure the writers are somehow going to make them come out all shiny and great in the end. but I already foresee misery and missed opportunities because of the mother's insistence in meddling with the older siblings relationship. sending your child into a depression and backing them into corners is a surefire way to have a fuck up on your hands.

It's multi layered. He is aware of her literacy and she knows that secret has been exposed. If she were to attempt to keep it secret any longer it could only harm her and her family. Access to the study not only grants her access to the knowledge stored within it, but also puts her in a position to better protect the Lin family thus by extension her adoptive parents. I believe she has already had some doubts about everything that happened 7 years prior. So though the path she chose is the more dangerous, I believe her curious nature also played a role. Because of how her family died in think a part of her cant rest until she has an opportunity to figure out what really happened. Being closer can help her assess his morality and overall demeanor.

of course this is the show i watch while my mother is in the hospital recovering from a stroke...well at least I finally got to get all the tears out.

Would have been a perfect 10/10, but production(editing specifically) made it a 9.5. The editing was really the only category that wasn't a 5/5(I rate based on 14 categories). I need to go put some spoons in the freezer for tomorrow and find my guasha tool because I am all puffy from the tears. (I watched episode 18-24) so it was a rough ripping of the bandaid.

Very real depiction of what it's like to be SAed and wanting to hide it from a loved one, but still yearning for their comfort/shelter.
Also very realistic response from the significant other after finding out.
That feeling of wanting to take care of it on your own, and your partner having so many emotions and feeling just as helpless to undo what has already happened.

red flags are warning signs that can commonly get overlooked in relationships.Throwing things away when frustrated. The umbrella for example when her roommate meets her downstairs. Giving an expensive gift after sleeping with his younger subordinate after she stayed the night in his house after getting drunk for the first time. Hotels exist and he could afford to get her a room for the night. Pursuing said younger subordinate after being the one to request a no fraternization clause to be added to the employee handbook. Telling his girlfriend the only reason someone would hire her is because she's cheap and obedient. Being in a position of power and starting a "weekend only" secret relationship with younger less well-off subordinate, knowing that her career could potentially be harmed, while he could get a job anywhere and has his family's money backing him even if he fell on his face. Leaving the country without informing said girlfriend after only asking her if she had a passport and snowboard. Going with a female friend without first discussing said friendship with said girlfriend. Telling your girlfriend to feed your fish instead of wishing her a happy new year and expecting her to be waiting for your return in the apartment she doesn't live in. Instead of saying you bought things for your girlfriend to use in your house you tell her they were left behind by other women and to make sure to label what you use. without humor. Saying harsh, hurtful things to his girlfriend and then apologizing...repeated pattern that may or may not have corrected itself now that doggo Lu-ke is in the picture. Treating your girlfriend like your subordinate instead of your partner(which is why dating your boss is not as fun as you may think it is)His biggest issue is that he says things he doesn't actually mean when he gets emotional or even just in general. Now that they've been together for a long time she can pick up on the difference between him lying to himself verses being flippant verses actually being mean. 22 year old version of her could not tell the difference.

She literally overheard him telling his mother he wouldnt introduce them or bring her home for New Years as it's still not the right time. That made her believe he still isnt serious about their relationship. Instead of just asking her to move in with him, he made it seem like she could rent a room at his place as a tenant, not a romantic partner. So though he introduced her to his friends she still feels inferior in their relationship. Neither of them are opening up enough for being together roughly 2 years at this point.

Think of it this way... She's in the deep end but holding on to the side of the pool because no one has taught her how to properly swim. She might be able to float and survive or she could sink to the bottom and lose herself completely with no escape and no one to pull her back to the surface. Because she believes he is still in the shallow end enjoying getting to walk freely and easily without having to do too much work to stay above water.
