you don't understand romance readers wanting the adaptation of a romance novel want the characters to have the same character as what was originally written...? The watchers and readers are saying that putting it back to back to back to back to back...instead of having it shown over time or you know stick to what's in the source material is the problem. Also, some of HOW it is filmed is also an issue for some to the point they have had to go back & re-edit because of the amount of complaints. Having a character that is never in the novel show up half dressed in a victim's private space & it's played as fan service or for laughs goes against who Sang Yan is as a character.

I miss being able to use coding language(HTML) in comments to format the text the way I want to and to add individual spoilers for a certain sentence. In the show they have Duan Jia Xu show up when he never meets Wen Yi Fan in the novel. This is during the no contact time between Sang Zhi and Duan Jia Xu in her senior year of high school. It will overlap story timelines in the fall/winter. Next summer is when Sang Yan goes to check on her in Yihe and finds out she's dating DJX.

We are missing part of that encounter the night she tells him she's not going to university with him. (spoiler start) Her abuser was back on the street and harassing her, Sang Yan doesn't overheard what the conversation is but hits him and they run away. She realized in that moment that he would one day end up getting hurt because of her and she pushed him away.(spoiler end) It was a trauma response.

In the novel she doesn't need as much saving as the show makes it seem. The director and screenwriter are actually getting a lot of shit from novel readers about all the added abuse/situations she finds herself in.
There is what happened to her as a teenager with her family and the events at her apartment that ultimately gets her to move in with her co-worker. Then for a long period of time they are just getting reacquainted while she gets used to being a reporter instead of a journalist. Then her family comes back into play to circle back to what caused her to distance herself from him, and that's when she really begins to open up for the first time in her life about what happened.

Yeah. I was talking about it not being in the novel...like Sang Yan in the novel never lets people into their space. Nor does Wen Yi Fan. The only person I remember in the novel who entered their apartment was Sang Zhi.

I dont remember anyone visiting their house except Sang Zhi & he ran it past her like 2 or 3 times with time of arrival level updates.

In the Novel, had Sang Zhi already flown to Yihe to check on the girlfriend situation? I could swear that it was mentioned like it had happened in her 2 year of high school and that she was presently in her last year aka 3rd year of high school. I feel like it was mentioned as an off handed way to say, well I've got to keep an eye on you because you're still grounded from the stunt you pulled last year...type of energy.

The Hidden Love production was only 25 episodes long and a much lighter story. He notices her in I believe episode 11 of 25 and they also get together at about the halfway point at episode 16. There is flirting and cute moments but still somewhat of a slow burn romance imo as there was a lot of build up to there actual relationship.
The First Frost is more of a second chance at a beginning...friends to lovers....deep love. It deals with a lot of triggering topics. SA, parental death, abuse, neglect/abandonment...etc. There are a lot of light moments as well...but there is trauma that has to be overcome.

But he's still a man that she doesn't know. No matter how much he trusts his friend Sang Yan would never have another person in her space without first running it by her. Even more so a man SHE doesn't know....because that's what actually matters. Not his comfort with his friend, but her comfort in her home.
I watch a lot of book to screen adaptations and can think of 3 different ways to have the same result without compromising basic characteristics of a main lead.

This is a slow burn romance so don't expect much development until about the halfway point. This one might not be for you right now.
A shorter web drama might do the trick for you to have a nice balance. Or, maybe it's time to pull out an oldie but a goodie....aka one you've already watched so that you can skip the scenes that don't matter to you. This is what I sometimes do when in a drama funk.

The eye acting from all four of them was comedy gold.

Okay, I'd like to state for the record that Sang Yan would NEVER and I repeat for those in the back NEVER invite someone over to their shared apartment with out FIRST running it by Wen Yi Fan. In the novel even when he was bringing his own little sister over he would double triple check that it was okay and tell her when.
He would never, ever ever invite a man over that she doesn't know and let him shower in their home and walk around half dressed. This plot is literally just not a thing in the novel. I think production wanted a reason to have Duan Jia Xu around. She doesn't meet him until much much later. Like I honestly don't even remember them(DJX and WYF) interacting, as he was always working during this time period, and he would maybe visit during major holidays.
Adding this is very against Sang Yan's character. The scenes are funny and lighthearted, but Sang Yan in this drama has seen her be chased down by a group of men...and then overheard and then beat them up...he would never bring another man into her personal space.
I'm not really mad at production...but I just wish they would include a "hey is it okay if my friend stays over tonight?" and have them introduce themselves to each other over the phone through a video call in a previous scene so it would make more sense for her to be okay with it. They could have still kept the comedy of him using Sany Yan's shower and the funny scenes in episode 11 but maintained Sang Yan's character...aka protect Wen Yi Fan...feed Wen Yi Fan.

I will also be trying to ballance watching this one as well as The First Frost(I've read it's web novel & have been looking forward it it for years at this point.)
