Actually I think she’s paving the way for her son to divorce Fan if need be. She knows that she’s a loose cannon and stupid, a massive liability for the stakes she’s playing. Also I think she wrote a letter to Zuo to mess up the chance of Fu starting over…but I don’t know, it’s just speculation. Fan deserved it all though—ruining someone’s reputation like that is so evil—even in the west it was enough to get a woman killed, all because she was jealous, truly and evil minded woman.

Really engaging and intriguing story. I am happily surprised and really glad I picked it up!

This script is working well because it shows a more accurate representation of human behavior I feel. Even in the closest relationships we can be like ships passing in the night, very few people are always in tune with one another. You can love someone deeply, live with them intimately and still misunderstand them profoundly. Mao doesn’t truly love anyone but his sister, because he’s never had the luxury of having an opinion. Wuyi loves but is afraid of the very love he feels because he also doesn’t control his own fate. The grand tutor loves his intelligence and convinces himself his ideas are for the better cause because his mind is his god. Jiayu truly feels everything but is so naive, she also has never had a place of her own but longs to be understood.

Anyway just my thoughts! Really enjoying this series! Also I like seeing actresses who are actually young play young characters, it puts a greater emphasis on the serious responsibilities people had in the past and how people couldn’t stay immature and infantilized as long.

Finally found an empress as evil as the empress in League of Nobleman haha (although the latter was truly crazy and more entertaining imo).

People complain of the hair turning grey trope, but I as a redhead with hair down to my hips, returned home from the hospital after having my second child with COMPLETELY white hair (root to end) on my temples. In 4 days this happened… the reason was that my roommate (another mother) was incessantly on her phone and I didn’t sleep at all for 96 hours straight. So although it’s dramatized, it really can happen. My hair went back to normal only after my next pregnancy.

I think she’s worried if something happens to Yao in battle, Ye Li will lose all of her sanity. So she thinks if they have a child, Ye Li would still have someone to care for.

Yes and she hallucinated her grandpa telling her to stay away from the back of the mountain, to avoid visiting the gravesites.

You might like the novel Deng Hua Xiao by Qian Shan Cha Ke. The FL has a similar aspect of revenge and the ML moving from suspicion to love. Also although not as mentally ill as Ye Li, she has a similar tragic past that the ML finally discovered and understands her. It’s fully translated ☺️

Yes I think he’s playing the hedonist role because he sees through his father. Qin is attention starved and supports his father it seems almost blindly, but the legitimate son knows his father’s true character…

Yes and sometimes the longer you spend time with someone, the more you fear their disappointment. She does love him, but she’s afraid. The conversation about the bird shows her mentality I feel.

As someone who is absolutely terrified of monkeys, I feel this drama resonates deeply haha.

But speaking seriously, I appreciate the multifaceted approach the drama takes towards mental health. Ye Li can help her SIL face her demons, but can’t see her own. Brings to mind the phrase “physician, heal thyself.”

I can’t even imagine the horror she faced on the mountain, especially at such a young age. Children have the ability to fragment their personality in order to cope with trauma and I feel like this is a representation of this. Qingshuang was a real person, but also is herself as a child. She gives her the care she craved I feel.

Half sister has negative brain cells but at least is comic relief.

If you want Word of Honor meets Mysteries Lotus Casebook, then this is the perfect short drama! Well done and very beautiful. I love everything YZX acts in and this is one of his best shorts I feel.

Most Douban ratings are from the first 6 episodes/ on the first day of airing. It’s a pattern I noticed on almost all dramas. If something doesn’t have a ‘perfect’ start, the ratings are always cooked.

It’s very enjoyable! I like that he’s choosing more unique scripts, this screenwriter is solid and the director is impressive too. I really like that at the core of the drama is the question, do we love for who people really are or for who we think they are.

She’s so beautiful and elegant! I hope she has a good career ahead of her ☺️

I see your point, I thought he was supposed to be a bit crazy as he had such a traumatic upbringing ( I never read the novel so have no clue how his character was there) and as such I found him really interesting. I see the point you’re making, I just thought it was the intention of the screenwriter to make the character more conflicted.
