I can't believe LWT became a monk and then killed himself. It just seems out of character.
Jokes aside, thought he does it so that he wanted GPY to let go of hatred…that’s my take.

Wahahaha…reading this is hilarious. I was thinking more like the ‘Butterfly lovers’…😂😂😂

I suspect that the screenwriter realised he couldn't fit in the last part, so he used the basics from the novel…
Ah, 👍🏻got it. War scenes need a lot more budget😅. As for second point, thats why a lot of dramas with historical figures tend to be vagued on the names associated or they are extremely cautious with the narratives. Probably more so for Republican era type of dramas.

I probably won't be able to finish until this weekend but it seems to me its going downhill fast at the reveal.
Enjoy the festive celebration 🤩🥂.

True👍🏻. War scenes and historical political figure may go through stricter scrutiny by c censorship board, so I do think it’s a wise decision here that they focus on business/merchant’s perspectives.

who was the "Hu" in the end (1903)?? anhui tea merchant hu?
And based on the context where GPY mentioned donating the money for great cause, and time period of nearing 1911 Revolution, I am going to guess that he is Hu HanMin, also a member of Tong Meng Hui (Chinese Revolutionary Alliance) at that time, and follower Sun Yat-Sen who later formed KuoMingTang (Chinese Nationalist Party).

I actually felt the sudden change made sense although it does feel abrupt. He was along about fair competition with GYP. Then when GYP’s identity was revealed and even everyone tells him that he can’t win as he is fighting the whole Qing govern and not just GYP. Something happened to his father made him even more self-destructive and made a bad decision but he wasn’t malicious, just impulsive and never think through the outcome of his plans. While as we all know eventually who will solve it and I still like the treatment of the relationship between GYP and LQ, esp. at the ending.
What I am dissatisfied about is still Ms Su’s role.😓 But it is what it is.
Hope you get to catch up on weekend, have a good one. Like to hear your thoughts;).

I didn’t read the novel, but read online clips on certain parts about the novel. What you said make sense that the script writer wanted to just follow GPY’s path, so the theme doesn’t get distracted by other plot line.

I retract what I've said above. I still haven't seen the next scene and why she needed the jewellery. 😂😂😂
Yup, she went with a mission in mind😂😂😂.

My view is after he lost his dad, he went into self destructive mode. But his nature is still kind, his stupid…
👍🏻Wise choice too, I am too impatient 😅.

Such a messy state they were in, eager to know will we have a tragic ending…but at least everything seems to resolve. So can watch in peace😅.

the money than ruilin was asking around him in the end came from 8 families, right?
Yup, most likely that’s why he can’t say a single word about them.
Wheneever there is a scene where he visits them, it’s always seems to be about asking them for help in their network and cash flow;).

If I am not wrong, the novel Li Qin is much worst and did some terrible things to hurt GPY. But here, it wasn’t as bad, he made some impulsive bad decision in trying to win GPY, but ultimately he also turn over.
Btwn it’s a happy ending for all;).

I absolutely detest Li Qins reaction to that reveal, I could see his decisions can be rather irrational, but man…
My view is after he lost his dad, he went into self destructive mode. But his nature is still kind, his stupid deed will still rectify by GPY eventually.

A thoughtful comment that got me thinking. Was not contemplating Gu's mothers character from this perspective.…
Ep 36…LWT’s explanation.

I felt that’s all her…she truly doesn’t know her husband, that’s why I suspected their marriage was more of parents betrothed and and loving type. In a couple of dialogues that LWT said, how poverty and greed can change a man… Can’t recall which ep., but it’s something that he kept repeatedly mentioned to his son to not show compassion. I felt that LWT cherish his success more than family relationship.
But we shall see, just my speculation;).

Which part are you confuse with? Here is some short brief points: - NJL was stabbed by LXR, LXR then got beheaded…
Yup…I have the same frustration as you. This director seems to try to set up for season 2, leaving so many question unanswered. But yet we know there won’t be a season 2🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.

In those times, in small village, it’s common that neighbors’ kids are betrothed and married to each other. My speculation is their marriage is some sort like that. Then when LWT(Mr Gu) got into capital and got greedy, and while struggling as someone poor, he may be tempted and took an opportunity of his ‘misfortune of death’, to change his name after marrying the rich Li family.
He never really felt attached or loved his first wife as much, he is more into his own success and wealth, so he abandoned his past self and chased after his goal.
But that’s my speculation, let’s see how it’s played out in upcoming ep.
