I’m just gonna sit here and wait until it all fully subbed and you guys advise me whether this would be the…
I get a goof feeling about this one. First drama where he also really gets to show his acting skills. All his other dramas seem to showcase his broodiness and looks more than his range.
I really don't get it - this is one of the few great modern C dramas. Both leads are popular, talented and stunning. Yet this is subbed sooooo slowly. How come these actors' fans don't volunteer to sub - there are so many English speaking Chinese people who love dramas. I would do if I could speak Mandarin. On the other hand you have crap dramas that get subbed almost every day...
The ML is absolutely brilliant. My favourite romcom C actor. The FL is trash just like most C drama actresses. Directors must really hate women - they are all portrayed as rude, crude and insufferable.
Also may have been best to name this drama Subway. China is ridiculous with their disgusting product placements. They reallty treat viewers like cows. That's the main reason why I usually boycott modern C dramas.
I will respectfully disagree with you labeling FL as frigid. She has her reasons and while said reasons may not…
It is especially because of the era that it doesn't make sense. Doesn't matter her relationship with his ex wife. Women were used for the sole purpose of procreating...this is exactly why he has the many wives/concubines people always complain about. No men during this era would wait even for weeks. Obviously the director is working hard trying to make the ML so heroic but it is disappointing as I like more realism. Rejecting him a few times is ok but not all the time!

Definition of frigid: 1a : intensely cold frigid water. b : lacking warmth or ardor : indifferent had an emotionally frigid father. 2 : lacking imaginative qualities : insipid writing precise and frigid poetry. 3a : abnormally averse to sexual intercourse —used especially of women
Whether you like it or not, FL fits in the definition of being fridig. That is a fact all viewers can see.
Could someone please tag me when they FINALLY do the deed? FL is getting on my nerves..you married him and you keep on rejecting him. No way any man, let alone in this era, would put up with her frigidity.
Wallace is honestly one of the best C actors. He always delivers and gets under the skin of his characters (whether in modern or historical) - very few actors can play those type of characters well (just need to compare with the recent disastrous performances by younger actors). The control he has over his body language and expressions is amazing and he has this charisma that not many Chinese actors have (a lot of them exaggerate the alpha male persona or come across as simply wooden). Wallace previouly mentioned in an interview that he likes reading ancient literature and poems as it helps him prepare for historical dramas (and also takes horse riding lessons - a small detail but not having a fake green screen horse riding makes him more credible). And he is one of the few actors who is not afraid to properly kiss his partners. The plot is nothing unseen before but the conbination of A+ acting by the leads, great direction, editing, pace and cinematography makes it so addictive. The FL is not a classic beauty but that's probably one of her strenghts (and what was lacking in General & I) - her looks don't distract the viewers from the storyline and she can actually act.
I can say its so so, it have similarities with "Romance of Hua Rong", same director, costumes, actors, but chemistry…
Thank you very much :). I tried but I actually don't like the actress - she makes me cringe so I struggle to connect with her. But I'm sure other people will love it. Thanks again, darling
Could someone please tell me what's the romance like? Most C dramas seriously lack in romantic chemistry IMO (especially when casting young actors). Thank you
Well that's the beauty of this drama...every character cheats in their own ways, no one (even the ML/FL) is neither good nor bad. All of them are somehow good people who make really bad decisions they end up regretting. What's brilliant is how it's acted and the pace. So much feels.
Because she is literally a child when they met and she had been living in seclusion with no sense of gender difference…
They were all adolescents at the beginning, Jin Mi was just younger. By the time she and Phoenix started really dating she was older and had gone through a trial - she got much more mature, not sure how you found her childish after the trial (she became sooo serious). The reason why she did what she did is because of the pellet. It was very common back in the days (historical and in fictional royalty eras) to marry young (at like 15/16). Nothing disgusting about it, it was just a different world. Times have changed now but although people may not marry young they certainly start physical intercourse super early in western countries (I mean girls getting pregnant at 16 or starting a "serious" relationship pre adult is quite common so the only difference is that marriage is considered too early).
Why is Jin MI such a child? Why are so many of these wuxia/xanxia female leads so childish? Is this a type of…
Because she is literally a child when they met and she had been living in seclusion with no sense of gender difference and feelings. In this drama her behaviour is 100% justified. She does grow a lot after the moral arc.
Tell reasons why I should watch this?Than I'll consider
Opinions are subjective so why would you expect someone to convince you? Best thing is to try out and drop if you don't like it. The only things I can tell you is that it's packed with romance, very strong emphasis on a love triangle, very strong second lead syndrome but first lead is extremely charismatic, comedy and lots of heartbreak but satisfying ending.
Timmy should really stick to modern dramas as he looks hot in those. Something is seriously off about his acting, body language and mannerism. You can tell he is uncomfortable and out of place as a scholar. He looks like he tries hard...really hard. The exagerrated eye stares, the stiff body posture, weird smiles and even weirder neck movements...are we sure this is his body??? I know C drama do crazy stuff like creating CGI bodies by attaching a head to a cgi body. Alan Yu has some serious competition here! The actress is equally bad so it's at least balanced.
