I had had some reservation about Marilyn Monroe. I don't have anymore as I discovered her reality and all the abuses she went through in the show business. She was a sexual, sensual legend. She never impressed me. I pity her more that anything else.
For personal reasons, I have no emotions in regards to American entertainment industry. I happened to watch some movies to widen my knowledge. I haven't watch one for the last decade or more.
Another actress of that period that surpasses them all is Ingrid Bergman. My older brother introduced me into her World. I watched most of the movies she staged in. Also the one she created in co-laboration with wellknown directors. I invite you to make a tour into her impressive portofolio. She is called a legend.
You are correct, in Blossoms Shanghai, Xin Zhe Lei was the weapon of that series. She was well directed. If Xin Zhe Lei was not restricted in her choices of scripts, she would be at the same level as Zhou Xun - my favorite Chinese actress.
Zhou Xun doesn't act, doesn't play. Doesn't need to be directed. She is a natural. She doesn't need make-up. She anticipates the camera angles. She gets into the various emotions of her character in a split of a second.
It's a remake of many past Cdramas. I don't think that the story will stand out compared to previous and similar stories these last 3 years or so. But I don't mind for, there are several reasons to watch Ci Sha's acting. He has this elegance of a real character walking out from an ancient painting. His bearing for this role is convincing. His tone and prononciation are perfect for his script. It is a proof that he worked his craft meticulously.
As for Ren Min, she hold her fort and she's good at that. She doesn't have this strong nasal voice I could hear in some of her older characters. She is still this lively but not childish actress like some I won't name. She is good, very good as she carves her craft with time. Wish her to stay safe and healthy in this tumultuous environment.
Both of their acting are better than some actors/actesses in this story.
I rarely enjoy contemporary Cdramas. But when mentally mature actors, with perfect verbal expressions for the character they represent, ready to take a new challenge of a psychological script, it is worth watching.

The air was tensed with so much diplomacy. Without bloodshed, this gathering was similar to the Mianchi Banquet. Amazing script indeed.
1st episode in and the actors are without doubt well set on the stage. A good start especially from the historical period acting style. Looks like a roller coaster is on its way.

How can his brain manage to write. He must be a genius. In this field, AI is taking over. Alcohol is a virus adding AI is a deadly mixture. She cannot reconcile with him. In ep 8, why did zhou mei's mother forced her to eat an apple?
It's the symbol of temptation. A warning from her mother not to be trapped in worldy acts. The peeling signifies the mother protecting her daughter from the poison of life that might have been on the surface of its skin. The mother thought and gesture are charactirized by evilness.

Chapter 7th: the scripting of the parents flaws was so well done. Oh Zhou Mei, I wish I could embrace you in my arms and give you the warmth a child deserves. Your tears drenched my heart.
Half way and I dare say that it is a watchable shortlength Cdrama. It isn't pretentious, it is well directed, good settings and props, surprisily daring intimate scenes, intriguing side stories compared to the big production trends. Not yet rated.

Not only C and K dramas. The other asian dramas also. Dramas are reflexions of some people behavior. There are lots of youtubers discussing about people being loud to the extreme. When traveling one gets used to it.
