There were genuinely some horrifying characters in the series. Park Ho-cheol is a perfect example, he killed people as casually as if he were swatting flies. But honestly, even while watching him, I never got as angry as I did watching Hee-ju. Zero character development. Her former lover died because of her, her father died because of her, her mother was left completely alone, drowning in grief, and Woogye had to pull a gun countless times because of her. She just kept turning into a bigger and bigger piece of trash. She was truly a disgusting character. The only good thing about the series was Woogye. I love him.
If you’re so smart, if you think you know everything and don’t trust anyone, then when that short-haired woman invited you to that place and tried to get you drunk and lied to you, why did you believe her, you stupid girl? I swear you don’t have a single ounce of sense. This is what greed does to people, it turns them into something disgusting. You don’t trust anyone, yet you still believe that gambler who cheated and tricked you, you idiot.

There are a lot of female characters written in a way that makes them seem naive, passive, or constantly in “damsel in distress” situations, often because that’s what some audiences are assumed to prefer. Also, slightly unrelated, but I hadn’t really seen many comments about this: they kept making the ML eat really unpleasant-looking food over and over. I used to put the show on in the background while eating, just for some noise, but at one point it genuinely bothered me and I had to turn it off. It felt pointless and off-putting. I’ll also look into the writer and director out of curiosity.
It was a beautifully written and touching series. When I saw the promotions and realized it was labeled as a BL, I was genuinely happy to see well-known and successful actors from both Korea and Japan taking part in a BL project. Still, I had my concerns that it wouldn’t fully commit to it, and once again I was right, it stayed trapped in bromance territory. I saw another user mentioning the use of “ashiteru” below, and honestly, there was no real point in leaving the audience hanging ambiguously like that. They could have conveyed what they wanted to say in a much clearer way. It was obvious from the beginning that this story wouldn’t have a happy ending for them. First Seiichi, and then Johan… At least they were able to tell each other that they loved one another. That alone means something. I just wish they could have had a different ending. Ok Taec-yeon impressed me once again with both his visuals and his acting. 9/10.
