The emperor became a changed man after Zizan died. It seems shifu made a miscalculation or a mistake during Prince Yi”s rebellion leading to Zizan’s death. The emperor never forgave him and has since been incredibly cruel to him but he sucks it up because he also feels guilty. It foreshadows that he will give up Haishi to the emperor bc he “owes” him a lover. And I really don’t like how they are so linked bc if someone kills this emperor with a death wish then shifu dies too. That is why I have a terrible feeling about the whole setup.

That makes sense, I didn't read the novel but it is already hinted. The shifu feels guilty for somehow causing the death of the empress. So I suspect when he realises the emperor loves Haishi, he steps out of the way and pushes them together.

I don't like those catfish whiskers on anyone but its par for the course in c-drama and in the grand scheme of things not something to get that bothered by. I will at least watch the first 1 or 2 today. The romance plot sounds incredibly similar to Legend of Xiao Chuo. I would also observe that Yang Mi's drama shifu never gets lucky... But all not spoilers just observations since I didn't read this book.

I haven't started this yet so no comment from me yet but Douban and Weibo is going to town on the two hair strands saying it makes him look like a Guangdong cockroach (which I believe is the giant variety). 🤭🤭🤭

The director is imho one of the best so it won’t be nearly as a bad as this. But I know the novel and it’s true Princess Agents plagiarized it but the PA writer did a much better job in characterization so it is the far more popular novel and better written. Long winded way of saying I think it won’t meet over hyped expectations but it will be ok and still many times better than this.

I doubt I will watch the last 10 anytime soon if at all unless Pearl Eclipse bombs out worse.

Yeah to be honest I am just watching to pass time while I am half working. I am not invested in any of the characters anymore bc they have gotten so little screen time I don’t really care about them.

I think he has been drugged. Someone went and rated every episode 10 which jacked up the rating.
