Couldn't agree more re the novel. I didn't finish it for that reason but I loved the way the prequel was done.

They managed to cast an actor that resembles him in a very odd way.

He is the hidden Jia Baoyu caught between two women, the one he loves and the one he marries.

He is also supposed to be super tall in the novel. Not much they can do about that but casting a super tall dude as his bestie is just…. Slaps forehead.

Can't imagine how she didn't choke when she had to describe him as a traitor...

So I really don't love the glasses and the haircut. Why do they make him look like a mushroom head? And the best thing about Ren Jialun are his expressive x-ray eyes... which are hidden behind glasses and obscured by the overly long bangs. I really hope they change all this soon.

I am not suggesting ZSC prevent the wedding to grab Shiyi for himself but that is the only way to best protect the little emperor. As such a smart general whose own claim to the throne was viewed so suspiciously he should not be so naive wrt Guangling wang. I also don't think the court should have allowed this to happen for the same reasons. I don't want to overly nitpick but I do think the political plotting/writing/logic in this drama is not the best.

I always felt it was a plot hole that the wedding goes ahead to begin with. Shiyi is backed by not only the powerful Cui clan but also has Nanchen wang behind her. Once they decided to make Guangling wang regent, he cannot possibly be allowed to marry her bc that would give him too strong an incentive to revolt and overthrow the child emperor. Especially since he is also from the royal bloodline. Zhousheng Chen should have known better and used that excuse to take Shiyi back to Xizhou with him and put off the wedding until the emperor comes of age and takes over and Guangling wang steps down as regent. Until then, he should not be allowed to marry at all. In fact that was the promise Guangling wang made the empress dowager when she bestowed the marriage - he could marry Shiyi if he agrees to leave the capital for his fief.

Yeah the problem is the idols earn so much ad money that that they have back door fan heads that get paid significant amounts of money to increase their traffic. I don't have a problem with cracking down on that but to target "effeminate" idols is well beyond what is acceptable.

Lol - I watched to pass time and the novel is one of my all time favorite Chinese classics that I read many times… Don’t faint but my drama buddy wanted to watch this over One and Only…
