Yeah both Bai Lu and Ren Jialun are speaking are speaking their own lines - modern dramas are less often dubbed. Douban initial feedback is already trashing him for non-standard Mandarin and poor line delivery. I love Ren Jialun and I am glad he is speaking his own lines here but I agree that he really needs to work on this. He sounds so weary and lethargic and he keeps sighing like it takes so much effort to talk that I kept dozing off...

Yups... that was the crux of my issue with the novel... she is a total doormat. I really hoped they would show in the drama that she has spiritual development and takes advantage of all the opportunities open to her as a modern woman that was not possible in the past. Looks like they didn't....
