Yes I think Ai Mi and Hou Minghao are making a huge point here that we don’t need kiss scenes to be invested in a CP. In fact too many contrived and boilerplate kiss scenes have completely ruined what little chemistry build up there was for me!

Till this day, the hottest chemistry I have seen in a c-drama is TROP where there is not even one kiss scene. All those fake pecks are just misleading camera angles anyway and the more “real” ones often are too explicit, leaving nothing to the imagination. Maybe I have been on set enough times to know it’s so crowded with so many people that it’s all heavily simulated.

Sure but in this specific instance he didn’t do that and we know the consequences. I don’t exactly blame him hindsight is 20/20 and no one is infallible.

Maybe she doesn’t really suspect him? Maybe she is just trying to use Li Mao to smoke out Li Lejun. She is a good faker - she plays dumb all time - Wuji is on to her and often calls her out.

It is not his fault but he did anticipate sabotage and was confused bc he personally fed the horses. If I want to be critical, he could have and should have shared his concerns. But he didn't.

Don't disagree with any of your observations but what I like about her is that she has flaws and is not all-knowing or all-seeing despite her intelligence. She also rightly doesn't trust Wuyi fully yet - her father of 16 years betrayed her. Besides Wuyi isn't fully transparent with her either - he tries to shield her. Like he never shared with her that her mom could be in danger even though he knew and took pre-emptive action (and failed). And he hasn't for example shared his identity. I am all good with this, I like the way these characters are very human and not too perfect.

Tbh even if there were, it wouldn't bother me. I think maybe many people don't remember what it is like to be 17 or how mature many of them can be. Luckily I am around my niece a lot and she is only 1.5 months younger than Ai Mi. When I showed her the fuss people are making over this, she just laughed and said OMG old people. She doesn't watch c-dramas or much of anything, she is too busy living life large.

Yes indeed but I am afraid that like Wu Lei when he enrolled, we won't see that much of her for the next 4 years until she graduates. I understand why she decided to take this kind of romantic lead role at 17 - its a safe way to establish herself in a FL role without having to consider doing heavy romantic scenes until after she graduates. She is going to disappear for awhile (other than short dramas she can shoot over the summer holidays) but leave us longing for more. She has very shrewdly managed her career.
