I think LM is being built up to deliver a twist. Remember Jinghe has absolute faith in her impartiality. Regardless of her feelings she will do the right thing. I also don't think she is in love with the CP. She is just a woman who was born at the wrong time into the wrong family. So she has no free will, she will have to marry and for her family's political advantage. She "loved" Jinghe bc she thought they were aligned in their desire to protect their country and hoped to spend a lifetime guarding the borders with him. When she finally accepted that he will never reciprocate, what the CP offers is the next best thing; that is that she can continue to also be a general when she is not by his side. The CP was very cunning, the moment she agreed to marry him she had to give up the tiger tally. You can see in court even the ministers were demanding it. That is how he de-fanged her and made it impossible for her to intervene with his plot to kill his father. With her latest actions, she has tricked him into returning the tiger tally to her. Let's see what she does with it.

Well the Luo family is not that established - grandpa was the newcomer scholar turned chief justice. So even Chen's family perceived her to have married down and it would have been a huge coup for them to marry Miss Luo 6 to Prince Han. Master 1 was not successful and he went to the battlefront for years. Master 2 was more successful but only took Ms Qiao bc she was the one he wanted to marry. As for Duke Ying, he believed he married Ms Gu but isn't the small boy his son? So he must have a concubine or two?
But I think they did make a decision to not include too many concubines to keep the storyline simple. It is one reason why Minglan was such a long winded and meandering mess of noisy unpleasant women, there were just too many concubines.

That's too bad. Good for you that you thrived nonetheless. One of lifelong friend's father was the opposite. He divorced her mom and married a divorcee with 4 kids whom he loved better than his 4 biological kids till the day he died. But she accepted it and is a happy person nonetheless.

Yeah he is a petty man. But LYN did turn his world upside down. Qiao is a terrible bitter person but she was the love of his life and wife he wanted. He loves her children even though they are disappointments. LYN and LSY were children he never wanted with women he didn't care for. LYN's return ended with Qiao banished and his household turned upside down. And to add insult to the injury, she isn't even his daughter and as it turned out, she was wrong about Qiao who didn't murder her mother. The only favor LYN really did him is she forced him to recognize LSY who will raise the family to even greater glory than his father did.

Of course he is a bad guy but as he said to his other daughter, no one sees it from his POV. Unhappy and frustrated people lash out and find it hard to be magnanimous to others. Not defending him but the character sort of broke the fourth wall in that scene to ask us - did you ever look at it from my POV. But I am not defending him I am just pointing out why he is the way he is.

Pretty sure it was her. The family’s glory was established by her husband’s achievements which is also why she was bestowed a title by the emperor. So they were the “newly arrived” and an alliance with the Chen’s was still marrying up for them. It was agreed when they were still kids but I don’t believe her sons just went along without any protest, esp LCZ. Hence her implied regret when she didn’t wish to force Miss Luo Six to marry Prince Han. But agree the story is all social commentary on the times.
