You have basically picked up on her issues. She is fine in regular mundane conversations. But when it comes to more sophisticated or emotional discussions, she is having enough problems just getting the phraseology right that she can't do much more with it expression wise. She is not a bad actress but ancient costume dramas are just not her forte.

Yes it is; it rewards the patient and open minded viewer and besides one arc, its superbly well written.
I think the relationships are quite equal but Snowy Night is quite boring and Rise of Ning is watchable but quite unoriginal so far. Fingers crossed KMLM delivers.

It’s not that popular a genre with Chinese audiences these days and the ability to make proper martial arts scenes doesn’t exist anymore.

Jin Yong was brilliant and he owned the genre. It’s very hard to find works like that again.

Thx to @XDSon. They changed the name so I didn't know that existed. Hope I can find time and a good quality Canto version.

Lol - the version of Laughing in the Wind I watched was an older version so it will be a "remake" for me. Tbh I don't mind if they don't remake them bc they are stories I already know too well having read all the books. But I wish there were new material that didn't stray so far into romance and politics. The remake I want to see badly is Water Margin or Outlaws of the Marshes but that glorifies rebels so there is almost no chance of that.

Jin Yong was super advanced when it came to female characters. Most of his men were duds though - Guo Jing was dumb dumb and Yang Guo had a thing for older women living in tombs. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Linghu Chong and Qiao Feng were my favorites. I also had a soft spot for that rascal Yang Kang.

Yeah nothing can beat the good old TVB wuxias. They just don't make them like that anymore.

Yeah it hasn't been a great year but Love of Nirvana is worth trying. So far Snowy Night and Ning are unfortunately headed in the more of the same direction but KMLM I am quite excited about...

Compared to other baby actress voices, RM's voice is a lot better so Idk what's the problem here
Ren Min's voice is nowhere near as intolerable the way Yu Shuxin's is in LBFAD, which I dropped. Tbh, it's not even annoying. My issue with it is that it really doesn't match the character or the dialogue. The dialogue itself and the way she acts tells me she's strong, smart and resourceful. But the way she speaks tells me she is none of those things. I have heard her using her own voice in other (modern) roles, she is usually pretty good. The specific problem is she struggles with the classical Chinese phrases and idioms that is part of this script. It simply does not roll naturally off her tongue the way it does with ZWY and the rest of the cast. She is painfully not well educated at all in classical Chinese and it shows. It is like someone who only speaks English slang being asked to recite Shakespeare. All of her words are too tentatively pronounced and does not reflect any emotion. While I applaud her attempt to dub herself, she is playing the titular lead role and not a support role. Her level of performance is simply not acceptable and she should be dubbed. I don't blame her as much as I do the director who made a terrible call in this matter. This is especially annoying for someone like me who doesn't read subs and mostly relies on the dialogue. All I hear is sweet and mincing monotone. It just takes me out of the character and the show. I haven't even bothered to check the Chinese sites I can already guess that it is driving all the native speakers bananas.

Ty, much appreciated. I saved it to my PTW list and since it is a TVB drama, I will look for a Cantonese version. I won't need subtitles.

I wasn't sure if I want to check this out. The initial hype dies down and I don't see posts of this drama anymore.…
It's not a light watch and its more about politics and freedom fighting than romance so it lost a lot of viewers. I hope you enjoy it but it could be one of those dramas that appeals to me more than other people.

Yes TBOY was good until it got tied up in politics. Jin Yong actually wrote the best female characters but there are no good recent remakes of his works. Nonetheless, they were so much more interesting than his male characters and they were definitely not weak. I can't comment on fantasy bc most of them don't really work for me. I don't enjoy characters with fantastical and unlimited powers, male or female.
