I don't consider this a wuxia at all. This writer thinks she writes wuxia but none of her novels really are. They…
Yes, if you want to see the real original wuxia spirit. All of the best classic wuxias were written by the overseas Chinese. One of the big issues is although wulin martial artists can be patriotic as in they love their country, they are also defiant and either openly oppose the government or just won't work with them or even recognize their authority. Obviously China doesn't like that part of it at all, so all of their so called wuxia writers makes everyone overly patriotic and controlled or cooperative with the government.

Yeah they are more old school real hand to hand combat and stunts by actors with quite a bit of training in martial arts. They aren't so bombastic and unreal to the point of fantasy and aren't short cuts stitched together with long super slo mo takes. Donnie Yen still makes these kinds of movies and the old school HK martial arts actors recently reunited to show off their amazing action in the movie Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In.

I think they were trying to make the next Jackie Chan and laid an egg. Although I have a soft spot for Hwang Jang…
I really loved that too!!! My bro and I watched that together many times.

I was really looking forward to this drama, but it feels like this is a PC Game. In 2 episodes there was maybe…
Actually a lot of the footage was shot in Xinjiang where they have gorgeous powder snow ski resorts. The problem is it is very difficult and very expensive to shoot action scenes there bc the snow is very soft and powdery and can be knee deep in winter. There is simply not enough budget for a TV drama to film those kind of scenes so it looks like lots of it was shot in Hengdian on a green screen and then superimposed on the shots they took in Xinjiang with CGI enhancement. They also opted for a very surreal and beautiful aesthetic so they must have filtered the hell out of everything. Not the best decision but I guess it was the best they could do with their constraints.

Yeah, no slapstick is a no for me. The only ones that ever worked for me was Stephen Chows movies and even then, I liked them, I didn't love them.

We should call this drama, “Snowy Night Countless Wounds”.
I think he already has figured out that he has no chance bc there is something going on with Huo Seven.

No I don't think so. 4th bro is very fickle. He falls in and out of love all the time.

We are only in ep 8 and I am quite sure 4th bro is already bankrupt. With the soaring cost of healthcare, by ep 16 he will be at least in the same hole again. For sure he is her slave for life.

To the Wonder and Hunter directed by Cao Dun are both winter themed dramas. Also Chang Chen and Ni Ni’s movie…
No worries - I also haven't watched To the Wonder but I know that like some of the scenes in Snowy Night it is shot in the snow in Xinjiang. Enjoy!

That's hard. I love all of Jin Yong's novels and quite a few of Gu Long's works. They are the classics. Among the newer writers I like Feng Huo Xi Zhu Hou although he also strays a bit too far into the fantasy realm, his works still maintains a very strong wuxia spirit. So he is still taken seriously by wuxia fans whereas this writer is not. I also think Zhou Mu Nan (Blood of Youth) has potential but his works are also too heavy fantasy and overly obsessed with court politics and nobility - all of his so called wuxia heroes have noble roots. What happened to the heroes who are just common people? None of the new generation of mainland writers have made their mark in this genre bc they don't really understand it and inevitably stray too far into other genres. But they are not bad if you just think of them as martial arts or in this case tragic romance novels.

It's wuxia. At least they should choreographed fight scenes better. First fight scene was really bad.

All the actresses went through the same makeup artist and have very thin eyebrows like my grandma used to have!…
I don’t have a problem with that style per se bc it probaby has to do with the fashion for that period. What is low key annoying is that it’s lopsided and not symmetrical on both Yining and Madam Lin. Like just make it even for heaven’s sake!!!
