I agree, Xueji was a much better acted role. The character's facets were rivetingly and empathetically conveyed. There are only ~330mm paying subscribers across all 4 platforms in China so subscriptions alone can't cover the cost of a drama. Most of them make half their revenue from advertising ( non-VIP viewers who watch on a slow schedule and watch ads). More episodes are better bc they have more ad slots to sell, especially as a drama gains popularity. Without the 40 episode cap, they would go up to 50, 60 or 70+ episodes.

This year has been a bad year for costume dramas but the suspense dramas have been pretty good. I am currently watching The First Shot which I think is quite good. And I just finished Escape from the Trilateral Slopes which is also very good. You could try one of those? If not, Love of Nirvana is airing today. It sounds interesting.

That’s so true! 😅😂😂 It may be last 5 or 6 tbh their parts get interspersed throughout but towards the end the final political arc is where their story is most prominent.
NIF which is a masterpiece is widely praised for being one of the best bromances of all time. Meaning pure friendship, non-sexual between men. Nothing "sick" about it. If you are not sure about terminology and definitions, check a dictionary/google before making a fool of yourself.
