I believe its doing fairly well but its high season right now, there are many good dramas airing at the same time. There are of course the usual complaints from book readers that don't like how the dark characterisations were whitewashed and how it was turned into a comedy. But they may be complaining but they are still watching...

Yeah this is more my impression. He is a survivor and ultimately driven by self interest. He is not a bad guy but aside from the fact he dislikes the Japanese, he has no real ideology. He is ultimately self interested first and he is utilitarian with everyone else.
