I don't know I didn't read the novel. But maybe there are novel readers here that do know. I just saw some online rants about whitewashing the characters in DY and how it makes the story motivations conflict with TBOY.

I think so yes, in terms of military contribution. But in terms of clearing YDZ's family name idk if that ever happens.

I think the main difference is both Xiao Se and Wuxin were characters that suffered and so they have a sense of purpose above everything else. YDZ is also a character that suffered and SHOULD have a big purpose but he gets distracted by his kiddy crush. I love the actor, he is so hot but the character I am a little bit disappointed with at this point in time. Maybe he is just damn bloody unlucky that he gets mixed up with a woman that is 倾国倾城. I mean even the young Ye Xiaoying is rebuking him and shaming him by telling him he will be the one to restore the glory of the Ye name, implying YDZ is not capable of it.

Pretty sure his dead dad didn't cash in his last political favors to save his son so he could grow up and go get himself killed pulling a stunt like that.

Lol - tbh there isn't that much suffering. I mean I was a bit sad for the star crossed couple but I was actually more annoyed. He is supposed to be trying to overturn his family's case but instead, he almost gets himself and all his buddies killed dead hijacking a prince's bride... Well I remember the name bc its a very cool name for a general, it means something like screaming or screeching eagle. He removed YDZ on Ruofeng's orders. He is always loyal to Langya wang, even in TBOY.

No, I think Dark River, Dashing Youth and TBOY are the only ones in a shared universe. I think his other two books were not as successful.

Yes he has written 2 or 3 other novels. The next one to be adapted should be Dark River.

I feel sorry for both YDZ and YWJ but once his family fell and he became an outlaw, there is no scenario under which they could be together. Even if YWJ didn't marry Prince Jingyu, her family would never allow her to marry an outlaw. YDZ should not even be alive, someone spared him and secreted him away. We don't know who that is yet but it seems like the emperor knew about it and allowed that to happen.

When he was asked to adapt the stories for TV, he wove them together around the characters in the TV series. They should not exist in the novel.
