Yeah no one liked that turn of events. But I did end up skimming the whole novel and it ends in a good place. No nonsense about someone stabbing the love of their life by mistake - idk where that came from. I am guessing it is in the donghua but its not in the book. If the drama follows the book then it is a good watch except for YDZ's story.

It’s not all revealed yet but I think that the Taian emperor and /or his eunuch are the real villains. None of this could have happened unless the emperor quietly sanctioned it. The Baili and Ye families had amassed too much power bc they founded the empire with the founding emperor. His successor no longer feels grateful to them and wants to suppress them. That is what BDJ’s grandfather implied. That is also why they retreated to Qiandong city and conceal that BDJ also is a gifted martial artist. I think Prince Qing moved against the Ye family in order to please his father the emperor and show he has what it takes to be named his successor. The old Baili grandpa regrets he didn’t stand with Ye Yu against the emperor. He also said if they come for the Baili family they would have fought. I wonder if letting YDZ go was the quid pro quo Ye Yu made with the emperor or Prince Qing in exchange for the rest of them going down without a fight.

Adding to what @Ness said, LLF was considered one of the emperor’s supporters in the court. SWM didn’t want the emperor to find out his relationship with Princess Taiping and have him quietly executed for deceiving the monarch so he revealed it in the most public way possible so that emperor couldn’t have him killed quietly. He also wanted to get all of them away from the capital so that they wouldn’t get caught up in the power struggle. In history Princess Taiping is killed after plotting a coup on the emperor. Idk how this ends yet but imagine if LLF was there he would have had to choose sides or worst get killed with his mother. But Li Longji was a good emperor in history he spared Princess Taiping’s son.

Poor Ruofeng. He tries to be fair but gets is caught in the middle all the time and makes both sides unhappy with him.

She is a woman of her times. It is not right but it is how it is. I don't even judge her if she decided that she may as well make the best of a bad situation. Like if you have to be a consort, may as well be the favorite so that you aren't bullied in the harem and you have some power. I don't think they needed to go where they went with the story. Its just stupid and lazy writing. Its not necessary to allow modern values to muck up a script like that. As I said, the way it was written in the novel was already enough to make me feel bad for her.

I think she decided to cooperate when she realized YDZ came for her (she heard him screaming) but realized he did not succeed. Maybe Ruofeng promised to get YDZ away safely. So she has a heart and she went through with it bc she was low key blackmailed. As in not exactly but she was afraid Ruofeng wouldn't help YDZ escape if she balked.

That is what the c-netizens were complaining about. This is a story set in feudal times. Lots of brides meet their husbands for the first time their wedding night. She may be able to outfight his royal ass but she would never dare, her whole clan is at stake. So this whole drugging thing makes an emperor who is supposed to be a not perfect emperor but a not bad one either seem like a real perv and coward. It makes him look so bad I am questioning why Ruofeng is supporting him. They shouldn't go that way with the story. I only skimmed the novel quickly from the stealing bride chapters onwards but they skip the whole thing about what happens and just leave it as she is the favorite that he spends 90pct of his time with and she is pregnant. The rest is left to the reader's imagination. The drama went in the direction of Too Much Information. I suspect it is to make YWJ and YDZ look "less bad" for the adultery they commit later on.

Lots of dramas have passed review so there are many pretty decent things they can drop. I am guessing however that unless Olympics sucked up all the ad budgets for the month, the platforms will all try to put out good stuff bc its summer holidays high season.

I looked up that part of the novel and skimmed through it. The drama does closely stick to it. But the novel just kind of skips to after the wedding and she is pregnant. It only says she is the cold favorite and Jingyu only visits the others 10pct of the time. Nothing about drugging.
