Yeah for dramas I think names, places and titles should as far as possible not be translated unless it has specific relevance. Bc the more important purpose should be to allow the viewer to follow the dialogue as far as possible and names, titles and places come up frequently in the dialogues. I have used Viki for really heavy classical political shows (i.e., Advisors Alliance) bc my classical Chinese is not that good and they do a good job with those even though they tend to over explain. But for fluffy shows like this I think their approach errs on the pompous side.

If I were translating this, I would leave King Bicang as is and do with parentheses (Azure Sky King) only once. I don't think their Chimei translation is correct anyway as there are many types of Chimei. It should be left as is as Tencent did since it is something that can be looked up in Wikipedia. I also think Celestial Realm and Spirit Realm would be better for the realms as both realms are immortals and the Western understanding of demon implies evil whereas in Chinese it doesn't. And for fun I would just call the Sky Above as Outer Space!😜 But in any case, it is all translator's preference. 🤷‍♀️

Well if you do make a big city trip, the weekday performances are rarely sold out and easy to get tickets to in both London and NY. Austria also has many good venues even though they are old and smaller.

Oh totally agree. I rely completely on dialogue when I watch so if the voice acting is off I am not in the moment and if the voice acting is good I can be so invested in the character I can overlook narrative holes. His timber is amazing and he is able to change it somehow to fit different roles.

I think they should ONLY be watched in person. In an amazing venue like Lincoln Center preferably. Bc the acoustics and the emotion is amazing even if you can't understand a word they are saying. But they are ALSO super long and when I go on my own I always either only show up after the intermission or leave during the intermission.

The actors may not want to say it. I think there was a similar line in TMOPB which Mark Chao said it made his skin crawl and pretty much implied he was just NOT gonna say something like that.

Well I have seen LGX do some pretty steamy kiss scenes in To Love so I am going to have higher expectations here...

I think L&R actually has the hottest kiss scenes in xianxias but you have to sit through a ton of blood spitting and repetitive lines to get there...

I indiscriminately blocked everyone on both sides of that fan war and was able to catch up on the proper comments on the In Blossoms thread. And then I unblocked them after that to not waste all my blocks on silly people.

I think he does a really great job conveying that he can't help himself. And I get that but like Shen Li, I am really angry at him too. It sucks for him but it also REALLY sucks for her. The memorial tablet scene was both sad and enraging. I am so happy she told him to f-off bc I would have too. I know he can't help himself but it is so selfish to keep pushing her away and then pulling her back again. And now Shen Li is in the awful position of being the jezebel that lures him down the wrong path potentially hurling her own realm to its ultimate demise. I have to applaud the writer for constructing an absolutely airtight impossible love affair.

I believe Viki gets subbed episodes from WeTV and just puts them out as such to keep up with WeTV's airing schedule. But their subbers go back and change it later on to make it better. But I can't check for sure bc Viki never buys the c-drama licenses for my region as Chinese is native here.

I watched some of his live re-enactments of Ye Hua's lines and I almost fainted.

LGX was asked in an interview why he looked so annoyed in a certain scene and he explained it was incredibly hot.

I believe those are how Tencent is translating it.

Hahaha - I don't have any links. When I lived in NY I just used to go to the Met Opera regularly for firm events bc my boss was on the Board. I don't understand Italian but they always die at the end in all the famous ones... except they keep popping up again and again for another encore while I just sat there in horror thinking oh please just die already! And FF is not an option.

I really hope LGX gets some tailwind from this. He is a terrific actor who never got a good break bc his features are not "pretty" enough. He is so eager to talk and enthusiastic in all the interviews and grateful to ZLY for giving him another burst of popularity bc he has been getting nothing for some time now. For me, he stole the show in all of Tsui Hark's Detective Dee movies even when he was just Mark Chao's sidekick.

The guy is the voice behind every hot male role in c-drama.
