Nah they really toned down her make up here. I always have a soft spot for her and I think this is one of her better recent efforts but I also think the first actress did a better job. I just feel sad bc I remember a time when she was very natural and very charming and didn't care how she looked for the camera and she was really great then. This is ok, she is not the worst but it is still disappointing to me, someone who watched and liked her early on. But I think its unfair to overly bash her bc honestly she is doing an alright job and is definitely nowhere near ruining this drama.

All I know at this point is that the mastermind is very powerful and not young. And from the dialogues, I just feel it is a man so not the Empress or the Princess.

I think its connected to Qing Di the boss of Baihua sect somehow although I don't think she is bad. I feel she is trying to expose all the bad guys. There are enough episodes left for me to think we haven't seen the mastermind yet but it is someone in the capital.

I don't think so. Shangguan Lan is not old enough to be in the conspiracy although I don't rule him out as trying to kill/killing Yang Caiwei/the real Shangguan Zhi. Its someone else who was already super powerful when Yang Caiwei's dad was killed. I wouldn't be surprised if Shangguan Lan is involved somehow in the corruption/salt smuggling. There are about 10 episodes left - enough time for them to go back to the capital to smoke out the big bad guy. Its probably someone not introduced yet.

Yang Ji'an was killed dead on-screen. And I don't think it's Pan Yue's dad - he knew where Yang Caiwei was and never revealed it. The mastermind wanted to kill her.
