It’s very difficult for a 70+ episode drama to have high rewatch value…
Maybe it was during covid...😅. Although I am not sure its that great for mental health to watch something like this in lockdown...

Surely not, please not MaRong love triangle, such an irritating character, she gives me a headache.
There is a scene where Di Renjie rolls his eyes at her and I almost died laughing bc that was me too.

It’s not so bad that I would drop the show but she is a huge pimple on an otherwise excellent production.

I wasn’t invested in the original characters enough to be bothered that they changed them in the drama. I just really don’t like the acting. There are many actors who shine in sidekick roles that could have been cast and this drama had ample budget.

I agree that 70+ episodes was too long but “ conveying an unnecessarily realistic impression of how suffocating…

Honestly she is the one really bad part of the show. On the Chinese internet they are saying her role was “bought” not earned.

Van Gulik did not create anything. He just translated the original novel written by an anonymous Chinese writer…
Yeah me too!!!

Can someone please tell me if "Fighting for Love" is considered an S budget level drama or an A budget level drama?…
Most of the drama budget (50-70pct) go to actor pay so S /S+ budget dramas are just the ones that hire top A list or idol actors with huge followings. It doesn’t mean you get better production values bc most of the money goes to the leads. None of the actors in this drama have super high pay rates so it’s probably not an S drama but at the same time you can see there is enough budget to spend on the production.

Yes Su Wuming from Strange Tales is a fictional disciple of Di Renjie. Strange Tales is based novels written by Wei Fenghua who is also a well regarded historian. His works are probably a lot more historically accurate than Van Gulik's fan fiction.

well done! I think the drama in terms of characters and plot is living its own life
Tyvm and yes indeed. The best thing about flawed stories like this is there is a lot to make fun of!

Yes exactly! There were probably more than one original writer that collected all the folk stories of Di Renjie and his cases. He worked his way through many Chinese provinces and was a folk hero during Tang dynasty. Even the original Chinese novel which was a compilation of these stories was only written much later - I think in Ming or Qing dynasty. And there was more than one writer.

Did Robert van Gulik create the character of Empress Wu, inspired by a real historical figure from the Tang Dynasty,…
Van Gulik did not create anything. He just translated the original novel written by an anonymous Chinese writer that fictionalized Di Renjie’s cases into English. He went on to write many more cases on his own based on these characters.

I wouldn't worry about MDL ratings. Those in the know will tell you, those with the highest ratings tend to be…
I wasn’t commenting on the rating for this drama. I am just saying in general I consider 8.0 a good rating.

This plot is so much better than the drama
They made the ML weak so that the FL can look strong. It’s so lazy.

People just have different standards and expectations. I consider 8.0 to be a good rating.🤷🏻‍♀️
