Not really. The only thing they have in common is solving different cases. But it's still a pleasant watch.
Did you watch Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty? I think it's better than Judge Dee. The cases are comparable and at least the crime solving team have better chemistry and they are actually funny not trying to hard to be funny like Judge Dee. I don't think Mysterious Lotus Casebook had good cases but the team dynamics were good. Also Blood of Youth may be a bit like AD but it is not mystery focused.
