Chinese women rarely freckle but the sun can be very aging and its not that great for the skin. In an industry that ages actresses out of most lead roles once they get into their 30s I don't really blame them but I do think the ridiculous face shields they wear on the beach etc is taking it a tad too far.

The novel is very long winded. Most of my friends abandoned it before getting to the end. I only listened to a few chapters of the audio book. But from the Douban comments it seems they may have changed the end game in the drama so I think no one knows.
