Yes I think everyone is guilty of that but the Chinese try to "disguise" the country whereas Hollywood openly names and shames them. The award winning Netflix Indian film RRR does exactly the same thing except its Indians kicking colonial British butt. 😅🤣

Actually we hire mostly from the Ivy League schools. We also consider candidates from the top Chinese universities but they are the minority of who we make offers to. A degree simply qualifies you as a candidate for a job interview, it doesn't guarantee anything. Your assumptions about how one school opens all doors couldn't be more wrong. But it's pointless to argue about it, it is something learned in life more than told.

It's like a private tutoring centre for after school sessions to help students prepare for universities. The crackdown on private tutoring is of course only in China and it's at the high school level to prepare for gaokao which is the national college entrance exam. Everyone takes the same test. The Chinese students that go overseas do it to avoid gaokao. They are usually wealthier their parents can afford to pay their tuition overseas. And if they can get into the top schools overseas, they can get better jobs as well.

No we don't always hire them, we hire from all the top Chinese universities. They just notably have a high incidence of not working out. And we start them all at the same pay. Usually the best hires are actually only above average students with high EQ and have good social skills. Work and school are very different battlegrounds.

The Chinese govt cracked down hard on the private education sector (i.e, Zhixiang) 3 years ago precisely bc of the issues highlighted in this drama - the best teachers including the ones who write gaokao questions were part timing in these private tuition centres charging astronomical amounts of money. Parents were working double time to pay for their only child to get the best and just basic online classes were costing 10pct of household income. Education started to divide society into the haves and the have nots. The drama does a good job presenting this in a balanced way. Lei Ming's father was so dedicated he didn't even take time for his own son and he had so little money (probably after his wife got sick) he couldn't pay for his own care. Of course Lei Ming would think so much about money bc it is important and disappointed his dad by going into the private sector. And of course everything he said is true, the odds are totally against Class 11 since the success rate of getting into Qingbei is 0.1%. By comparison Harvard's acceptance rate is 3pct. I totally agree that education should be an equal opportunity for everyone but that is something that is very hard to achieve, even in an authoritarian society like China.
