Yeah I hope so I am just irritated at the almost single minded focus on one school when China has many terrific schools. I also think it sends the wrong message bc elite school acceptance is like a lottery nowadays. Sometimes it’s not about talent it’s almost sheer luck bc the odds are that against you. This show is supposed to send an inspirational message not if you don’t get into Qingbei your life is over. 10’mm kids go to college in China each year but Qingbei only takes about 10k of them!!!it is only realistic if only 1 or 2 of them make it there. The odds of 5/5 is mind bogglingly small and it’s misleading.

As someone who has hired and worked with many Tsinghua graduates they are petty arrogant and pretty lazy bc they burned out getting in. We have had many more successful hires from those top Chinese universities you haven’t heard of. This is a well known issue among the firms that hire Chinese graduates from elite schools.

Unfortunately as you go along it gets more Shanghainese. All 4 leads are native Shanghai speakers.😅 I feel like I am trying to watch a j or k-drama where I keep having to pause or rewind to read the subs. Its very frustrating and the main reason I don't watch k-dramas. I am gonna ltry to look for the Putonghua version.

I only watched the first 2. It looks very gorgeous and the acting is top notch but hard to tell the story so far. It looks too glamorous for 1990 Shanghai but they are the super rich so I can go with it…

Good luck - it’s in a bit strange (to me) Shanghai dialect I think I only understand about half bc they talk so fast . I had to read subs. I may have to watch the Putonghua version.

Yeah but who cares about them? Once they graduate Class 11 are forever beyond their reach, even if they don’t make it into Qingbei but somewhere else. I just hope they don’t go the route of they only apply to Qingbei and nowhere else.

Yes of course it’s their dream and their goal and Lei Ming’s boast but it shouldn’t be the be all end all.

There is no real difference - Fudan U, Xiamen U etc grads are in equal high demand. And these kids are talking about not even making it to university. It shouldn’t be Qingbei or nothing.

There is but this is a spy story so love is not the main focus.

Wow tonight’s episode was really sad.
And something that’s been bothering me - so what if they don’t make it into Qingbei??? Yes it’s the school for the creme de la creme but so what? They can still have great lives if they get into any of the Top 10 schools.

Try HK bc SCMP is a HK newspaper and they said it is on WeTV. I am in KL at the moment and it is not available here on WeTV.

The original is in Shanghainese. Wong Kar Wai the director is very demanding and he asked them to do it with Shanghai dialect.

I don’t know - it may be on WeTV in some regions only. The WeTv version speaks Shanghai dialect and the CCTV version speaks standard mandarin. If you don’t understand Chinese it doesn’t make a difference.

Been really struggling with it too. There are parts I like and then there are parts I really don't and you described those to a T. Not to mention it is actually mind numbingly boring despite decent acting. Dropped.

I think it’s the same version. The CCTV version won’t be subbed but some cable networks in your region may have a CCTV 8 channel depending on where you live.
