Her sister-in-law knows what she did. Heartbroken she divorced Duke Xue and returned to the Yan family. Obviously the Yan family must also know what the Dowager did. She wants to bury the truth with all of them. You can see she is consumed by guilt and haunted by the 300 lost souls. That ruyi jade gift made her go beserk and reignited her desire to wipe out the Yans, suspecting that they may reveal her shame to the world. Thus she is trying to frame them as rebels. Obviously Pingnan wang is the one fanning the flames of all these old secrets.

Yeah Li Shimin's story is the blueprint for many c-drama plots - The Long Ballad and Court Lady are also about him. He respected and loved his wife Empress Wende who was the daughter of a powerful general but that didn't stop him from taking many concubines. Including the beautiful and seductive 14-year old Wu Tzetian. Li Shimin was very ambitious and capable, he killed both his brothers to ascend the throne. Someone who is not ambitious cannot be "forced"down that kind of path. So I really dislike is about how they wrote Li Ni to be so unambitious. It forces a relationship conflict that is hard to bridge bc they want different lives. What's wrong with just making them a power couple?
