The SML is really annoying. I don't really mind the SFL.

They have misunderstandings but so far they are resolved quite quickly. Except for the big one over whether he should be crown prince.

Yeah she just came off as kind of mean and then she got to cry about it and was comforted as well!?! What about poor ZZ?!? They just didn't sell me on the idea that they absolutely HAD to break up. She is a better person now and he doesn't even remember the past. And he does not seem as rigid and unbending as people claim he is. On the contrary he actually took XW's side on some issues and supressed his doubt when he could have taken the hard core righteous, by the book path. He is just not as scheming and cunning as XN and XW.

As a prince, Li Ni's marriage has political consequences. So it must be sanctioned by the court. His brothers will undoubtedly argue that uniting the Cui and Zhenxi armies in a marriage alliance threatens the court bc a smart emperor divides military power so no one is too powerful. They would be right, bc that is Cui Lin's intention. She knows if Li Ni marries her, together they can seize power and it would be a bloodless coup. That is what she wants him to do and it would be might makes right. According to succession rules, Li Ni is third in line to the throne after both his brothers bc his mother was not an empress. Li Ni already tested his father when the court suggested his mother be promoted to empress posthumously. They were laying the path for him to be crown prince. And his father gave his answer (no) by promoting his brothers' mother, although to be fair she was always the legitimate wife. When King Qi suggest he marry Cui Lin, it was very smart and actually perfect. That way Cui army and Zhenxi army don't become natural allies. That's why the emperor liked the idea so much. Cui Lin btw is making a power play. She did not ask to marry Li Ni. She knows that with her father's army whomever she chooses has best chance of becoming crown prince. And she is forcing the brothers to fight it out among themselves. She could have also more directly forced the issue by simply demanding that the emperor to marry her to the crown prince.

Maybe that was the best there was way back then (shudders!) but by current standards its just not watchable. But I feel the same way about Chinese Paladin. Brain cell destroying.

Yeah this was the kind of story they needed to give more development to the backstory than it did.

I still feel like socking Liu Shishi everytime I see her, that is how much I detested Sound of the Desert.

I didn't read the book but if it worked there why not in the drama? I didn't like that scene in the drama. The lines just fell flat and I didn't really feel sad even though XN was bawling her head off.

I think Cui Lin just wants to be empress. She dismisses the imperial grandson out of hand, without even asking what he's like. He is a super brave kid and a child prodigy. He'd make a fantastic emperor. And he has a very loyal and very capable general at his side who together with a great regent can protect him at the capital while Li Ni defends the borders. These are all the things Li Ni knows. But the fact is she is so reckless and arrogant she doesn't even bother to find out all the facts before coming to this decision that there are no other options. She thinks she knows better and doesn't even bother to ask why he thinks there are other options. What kind of communication is this? And then she sets out to manipulate events to her satisfaction. Maybe Li Ni should be emperor. But Cui Lin absolutely should not be empress. Because she will seize power and do as she pleases as she has shown time and again. Even if they end up together, if she doesn't change they will end up divorced. This ship has pretty much sunk as far as I am concerned.

I understand that to a certain extent. But to throw ZZ under the bus to save him made zero sense to me. If he is just a chess piece to be used then that was a time to sacrifice him and not ZZ.

I don't think I even got halfway. I love both ML and SML but LSS's screeching and throwing tantrums.... I fled like a bat out of hell. To date, she is still the worst FL I have ever seen bc she destroyed a Hu Ge drama for me.

Didn’t finish that bc the FL was so obnoxious I had to drop it.

What I don’t understand is why she went to such length to save Yinzhi. He is a vile person playing both sides so I don’t know why she ended up going to such lengths to save him.

Yes. She could have even ended with Yan Lin if the fans chose!🤦🏻‍♀️
