Review Scent of Time
Thank you for your comment. Yes, seems like in order to pass C regulation, most of this time travel theme has…
Will keep it in mind for the next rainy day but I am truly swamped at the moment. At best I will be able to keep up with 1 drama this month.

Many of these c-drama time travel stories tend to default to the dream explaination. I had no time or I would have watched this for Zhou Ye so thanks for this review.

It was really good. I bawlled.
I never liked any of the painted skin movies or the original work so I am still hesitating over that one. Will probably get to it on a rainy day.

Zhou Dongyu's "misogynistic" comment aside, she is a great actress who ONLY acted badly in Ancient Love Poetry,…
You obviously haven’t watched Sparrow. No one can sit get through 70 episodes of that and think ZDY is a good actor. In any case this is not your list so you don’t get to say who is on it. Go make your own. Trust me no one will care who is on it and who is not.

I think it may be similar to Kingdom (the Korean drama) https://mydramalist.com/22806-kingdom
Ah ok - I heard that was a good one.

Does Sangeng figure out that the captain killed his father? Who was the bearded helper to the killer?
No Sangeng never finds out about Captain Leng and everyone who knew is dead. The two bearded men were Magistrate Wei and his aid Mr Xie. Mr. Xie most likely did most if not all of the murders. He rides off into the sunset after killing the cook at the end.

It was a way to communicate and indirectly express shared humanity from joy to sorrow in a society where feelings or political views may not be expressed openly. The ancient Chinese were also intellectual snobs and a cleverly composed poem with multiple layers of meaning is highly prized.

Why did LZ never ask where is only friend XB was at? Hmm...
I does feel like a bit of a plot hole but I think Lu Zhi was never that good friends with him. Never confided in him and never gave him a second thought after he got rich. And he was changing his identity so I guess it would have been inconvenient to have him around.

Well ultimately it is Shicong that made him truly understand that justice is more important than revenge. Shicong is Baozi's parallel character. It is just too bad that Lu Zhi never confided in Baozi and thus Baozi was never able to save him from himself.

I have to say that the final confrontation between Magistrate Wei and "Mr. Xue" was one of the most oddly moving…
It was kind of sad. They started out as such good friends.

Judge Song didn’t come across to me as being full of remorse but more like full of bitterness and anger at his…
I think his remorse was over the best friend, whom he betrayed under torture. Someone did them wrong by framing them but he compounded that wrong by turning around and betraying his friend. His act of atonement was to prevent Sangeng from taking justice into his own hands. potentially turning into another Magistrate Wei. In his conversation with Magistrate Wei, he essentially tells him that when justice or revenge comes too late it no longer has meaning - in other words all the revenge killings he did was futile. I guess you could also call it bitterness or anger but Judge Song's lapse in morality was he betrayed his friend under torture. They got justice in that they were exonerated but his friend is still dead bc he betrayed him and he still lost his fingers. After that, he realized the importance of doing the right thing. He left Chunxing a poem that gave her hope by making her famous - a tribute poem by a famous poet will make her set for life. From the lines,, you can tell he didn't want to live anymore. Of course he must feel anger and bitterness as well but I feel both magistrate Wei and Sangeng were more angry and bitter from their actions than he was.
