I think the Infinite Fire is some kind of weapon of mass destruction. They hint that in the synopsis video. It is most likely gunpowder but could also be something radioactive/nuclear. It is a basis for their weapons technology but one formula is so lethal they vowed to guard it and never use it. And that should be the Infinite Fire. Obviously the younger generation may feel differently about it than the older and thus the internal divisions. That is my guess. Gong family are ancient arms merchants or merchants of death.

Yes I think it is definitely possible. I have felt all along SW Hongyu is tempted to replace Huanyu with SJ. But that means Huanyu is alive and if he was after the SW position, killing his father I am quite sure disqualifies him. He can't come back from the dead and hope to become SW. So his motive is unknown. Also Yuanzhi did the autopsies. I think that kid is pretty competent, at least enough to know a corpse when he sees one and I don't think he is on the same side with Huanyu. So if Huanyu did all that, he had help, at least one or more accomplices. I don't think he is Wuming, he is too young. There are two plots going on - one is the Wufeng/Wuming plot and the other one has to do with internal divisions within the Gong family.

I think SJ already had half a foot out the Gong family door. He is feared and respected in Jianghu and when Yaqi attacekd the Gong outpost, the ledger showed someone has been siphoning off weapons and herbs from the Gong family outpost. Probably money as well. This can only be done by him. He was tired of them placating him and was considering his options. He just wanted to get his hands on the Infinite Heat secret before exiting. I don't think he had anything to do with the murders but he definitely lied about being in the room when Huanyu brought Zheng Nanyi in. He had already left when that happened - both Wuji and the guards say the same thing. But he took a long time to explain his version of what happened that night and when he did he claims he was still there and there was a note in the hairpin mentioning the Infinite Heat. That note was never found so I think he made it up to try to frighten the Elders into telling him where the secret of the Infinite Fire is kept.

Yeah I my interest level in the romances is cursory at best. I am not that attached to any of the characters either and if they all die it’s fine by me as long as it’s good death and not like they got hit by a random rock.

It was to show how seriously injured YZ was and why SJ decided not to go into the village but send his men instead. Otherwise YWS would almost surely be busted.

I don’t know if that is the full reason why the Elders keep skipping over SJ as SW but your comment made me realize why SW Hongyu pulled out Jin Fan from the Red Jade Guard to look after Ziyu. WuFeng killed SJ’s brother and mother and then Ziyu’s mother dies too allegedly of a depression. Of course he would make sure Ziyu is safe in case he is a target as well.
