I don't think they intended to hurt ZY. He burst in on them and they were on the verge of being exposed as Wufeng. So she was willing to kill him to maintain her cover. She let them go bc she saw YWS successfully pull the wool over his eyes and offer a credible explanation for their meeting.

Ziyi is a Liang. She was obviously a spy bc she was in the opening scenes (ie an important character) and I honestly can't think of another c-drama where the prostitute is not a spy but I won't list them bc there are so many but they are still spoilers. She said the tea has cooled 凉 liáng which is a homonym for liǎng 魉. So she has already told us she is a Liang.

I wouldn't describe it as slow either but the plot has somewhat stagnated.

Yes of course he could go the right way, which I am still hoping as well. But I think his resentment is not just towards Ziyu but the Yu line. In his POV he was the rightful heir apparent and not Huanyu. This should never have been an issue to begin with had they chose him. So I don't think it's just about Ziyu. Ziyu is just the straw that breaks the camel's back.
